Unemployment negative effect on Permit C/ Citizenship

I am a non-EU citizen, and I have a permit B until the end of my PhD studied.

I am finishing my Ph.D which means I have worked in Switzerland for the past 5 years, now I am thinking to get unemployment benefits when I finish because I have not found a job yet.

1. Can getting unemployment insurance benefit (RAV) affect the citizenship or even C permit in future? (provided that I can find a job after being a few month on unemployment benefits )

2. How long I can receive this benefits?(My B permit expires at the end of my contract (end of PhD), but apparently they give a R permit after that)

Its a bit of an official scam, but unfortunately you are not eligible for unemployment benefits, due to your B permit being primarily a student permit and not employment per se.

I also finished my PhD after paying four years of contributions to the RAV, but was clearly told by EPFL that unemployment benefits are not given while job hunting.

To get the job search permit you may need to show money in the bank for six months of living costs.

So even when you get that L (?) permit for job search you can not still apply for RAV benefits?

what the heck!

Back to the subject of the topic: Supposing that the unemployment benefits will be given on job hunting period(With L Permit) is there a negative effect on future application for Permit C/ Citizenship?

I have a friend, who finished the PhD and got unemployment benefits until she found a job

Kanton Zurich requests for an early C permit that you should have received no social benefits in the last 5 years.. you can ask if unemployment benefits are categorized in this way - I assume not -

Stadt Zürich Soziale Dienste

unemployment is not social benefits and should not be detrimental your citizenship request. it shouldn't for your permit either but we have seen no -EUs who have not been able to renew permits on unemployment and other who have.

In Zurich, you can!

This seems to be canton/Gemeinde/bureaucrat dependent.

I know several people whose B permit renewal pplications were denied because of unemployment, I know a couple whose first time C permit applications were denied because of unemployment, I know of one C permit renewal that was denied because of unemployment - and one citizenship application as well.

All non-EU.

On the other hand, there seem to be folks here on the forum whose unemployment has not affected permit approval. Some cantons seem to have a different view than others.

Go figure.

are all above rejected cases in Canton SZ? please specify the canton, thx

I don’t know if you qualify for unemployment benefits or not, but if you do, it will be equal to having a job, as you are not putting any burden on social services. However, if you’re applying for an early C Permit (after only 5 years in CH), this is totally at the discretion of the Gemeinde and Canton (and to a lesser extent SEM. They could reject your application based on how they “feel” about you, and, in that case, you have no right to question the decision.
