Unfreez C permit after 1.5 years abroad

Hello

I paused my C permit to travel with my girlfriend for a bit more than a year. Before leaving I told the authorities that I wanted to pause it for 2 years and it was no problem.

Now I'm back and I'm trying to unpause it.

Originally I was living in Bern but now I'm leaving in Wallis. Bern authorities told me that they could not do anything as I'm not leaving there anymore.

The Wallis authorities are asking me for a work contract or proof of financial funds.

Is that normal?

If the permit is paused shouldn't be just needed a request to get it back?

I have been paying my taxes, insurance, and 3rd pillar in CH while abroad.

Are they gonna five me back the C permit or another one?

Does someone have experience with it?

Thank you a lot!

First of all, it is very surprising for me to know that a C permit can be put on hold to travel. as far as I know, the only reasons allowed to put a permit (B or C) on hold are education and employment in the foreign land.

are you sure that you actually kept it on hold and not cancelled by mistake? I mean, have you received any letter from the authorities that your C permit is actually kept on hold for the requested time?

the questions from your new canton seem reasonable as they don't want to return a C permit to someone without proof of financial stability. I believe its the same check if you move cantons on a C permit.

cheers

Permits are a cantonal matter. If it’s frozen in a Berne, only Berne can unfreeze it when you return to Berne.

Yes, I got the letter from the Gemainde as I have it paused for 2 years.

I'm waiting for the answer from the Wallis immigration, if I don't have any answer in a week I'll send them the form with all the data. It's been impossible to contact them by phone. I have been calling for the last 2 weeks every morning but no one take it. Just the music....

Seems that Bern cannot do anything because I don't live there anymore. I already asked them and they said I need to ask to the new Kanton

You need to return to Berne and live there. Or you need to apply for a permit in Valais.
