Hi there,
I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but maybe someone can help:
I’m looking to do a Master’s degree. Ideally I would like to also work at the same time. In my research I came across the University of Liechtenstein and I found a course that seems to be exactly what I was looking for (MSc in Information Systems with major in Data Science).
Does anyone in the Zürich area have any experience with this university?
I know it is fully accredited and as a state university the fees are very attractive (about CHF850 per semester), but how does it compare to the Swiss Universities like ETH or HSG in terms of quality of teaching, facilities etc.? What is the student community like there (clubs, societies) . And lastly, is it possible to work in Liechtenstein as a student (I’m from Germany and live in Switzerland - currently in Geneva, but looking to move).
Any feedback would be most welcome!
Thanks a lot,
Corinna
Switzerland is just over 3 miles from the Uni. So you can live in Switzerland and work and go to school in FL. Buses are quick from Buchs SG to FL also. Should be lots of part time jobs around Buchs. My ex's sister rents a house in FL to students at the Uni there, but since it's the ex have no idea if any are working while in school, but all of the renters come from Germany, they give the Uni high marks.
Hi Sliced,
thanks so much for your feedback! I will have a look at the Buchs area then as well! There seem to be lots of big companies based in Liechtenstein (like Hilti, Swarovski, Ivoclar, ThyssenKrupp) - ideally I would like to find a job in my field of study and not just "any" part-time work. But no idea how easy that is...
Thanks again for your reply!
Corinna
Hey Corinna,
I’m a master student, studying IT and Business Process Management in Liechtenstein and I can definitely recommend the university. It’s a small uni (unlike ETH or HSG), so that you really have personal contact with your professors and they really know your name (you can feel much more appreciated and motivated than in huge campuses). Although they don’t offer a wide range of master programs, in the four specialisation (Information Systems, Finance, Entrepreneurship and Architecture) they really provide an exceptional quality and our professors are all experts in these fields.
Concerning the working aspect, there are several international companies in the region that hire Information Systems professionals. The majority of my classmates also work (and all in the field). It did not take them long to find a job. But as a full time student you are only allowed to work 30% in Liechtenstein. There is also an other working possibility offered by the uni, it’s called student research fellowship. Each semester 3-5 students can work for the institute and can contribute to their research activities (more information here: http://www.slideshare.net/BPM-Liecht...-liechtenstein ). They made a really convenient schedule, we have lectures only on Thursday, Friday and sometimes Saturday. Vaduz is rather small comparing to Geneva, maybe you would prefer to live and work in other cities such as Sargans/Zurich that is also possible as you basically need to be in Vaduz 2x a week.
There are some student communities there, but as an international student you are kind of spoiled by the international office. They always organise some nice events and in the beginning of each semester there is a whole week for ERASMUS and international students full of ice breaker programs.
I hope I could help!
