unlimited data for a cellphone contract, which operator has the best speed/coverage?

Hi all

I am currently with Yallo Fat (Yallo seems to use Sunrise's network), I pay 58 CHF per month for the package including unlimited data (can be cheaper if I engage another 12 months as my initial contract duration has already passed)

While the download speed seems to be good with HD films, I don't know if the coverage/signal is that good. sometimes I cannot hear the conversation any more or lose signal while I see other people around are still talking normally.

Which operator provides the best Internet connection/download speed/coverage/signal based on an unlimited data package? I use my cellphone as hotspot at home to provide Internet access for my PC so unlimited data is essential.

Thanks

Hi,

Sunrise is supposed to have the best network in Switzerland based on official measurements . My experience is that data and voice coverage is pretty good. They recently launched new mobile tariffs, you can check it out here .

Crap, Swisscom has best coverage

Swisscom all the way for speed and reliability.. If cost is not a deciding factor.

Just tested now, 90.7 download, 29.2 upload.. That's indoor with 2 signal bars.

Wingo.

Max. 55.00 for unlimited data.

Swisscom company.

Here is a detailed test about top 3 operators' network in Switzerland. Very detailed and interesting analysis from page 6. https://www.p3-group.com/wp-content/...ct-2018-01.pdf

I have linked German version, this is the English one https://static1.squarespace.com/stat...01+English.pdf

In the main cities and roads, all 3 of the network operators perform pretty well, but Swisscom is strongest in rural areas. Ask around and test it for yourself. Get pre-paid SIM cards and see who is best in your area.

As for the network tests, it's mainly trophies and marketing. Swisscom usually wins them, but Sunrise pulls one out here and there.

salt is just so cheap that the coverage doesn't really matter any more. 25 chf per month

Salt's OK for big cities, but not sure about rural areas. I went hiking in Jura and I was getting Orange F signal... Like really?

You can get unlimited data for 20CHF/month with Lyca which uses the Swisscom network (throttled after 3GB tho).

https://www.lycamobile.ch/en/bundle

But their payment on their website is terrible, so you have to basically re-charge with codes bought from kiosks and put directly on the phone.

Othewise, Wingo is a great deal, 25.-/mo with 1GB, and only 5CHF for every GB after up to 55.- and then really unlimited. Wingo is run by Swisscom, not a shady outfit like Lyca

Except of course when you get no signal. Our village is a Salt black hole. But Lycamobile, who use Swisscom‘s network and are cheaper than Salt, is just fine...

"Cheap" and "Best" very rarely go hand in hand together.

Whatever you say, whatever piece of paper you got, it is a well known fact Swissconm have the BEST coverage in Switzerlasnd, they are also one of the most EXPENSIVE operaters too.

I have been on lycamobiles 19chf a month deal for 2 years now. I dont use 4g on it cos it does not work properly even though its available, and the odd time i have to turn on airplane mode to get 3g to activate again and the customer service is non existent but for the price its great.

Thanks for the giggle.

Thanks all for your input (I have been lurking on this thread). I have to find a data only (or data plus voice/sms that won't be used) for a mobile hotspot that one of the juniors will need next school year (as of August).

The new school does not have wifi worthy of the name according to the dean so we need to find a 4G option with unknown monthly data volume since he has been on school wifi until now (probably 1-2GB max). Will need to download/upload exercises from his Mac Air to Dropbox and consult digital books and some websites.

What I see as the major question is which company has the best mobile reception at the school. We will test this over the next month (using our mobiles on the 3 networks to see signal strength as a guess). It is great to have a few more names of companies on the Swisscom network. I was aware of most of the Sunrise/Salt ones but not the Swisscom ones.

Anyhow, thanks all.

If you need data only, Sunrise has a great deal, for 10CHF/month unlimited, but throttled to 2Mbps.

There aren't many virtual-operators on Swisscom. Wingo, Lyca are the main ones, Mucho Mobile is using their 3G net (no 4G) and Fust has a new abo using Swisscom, I forget the name. Next year UPC will move their subscriptions to Swisscom also, IIRC.

Fust seems to be selling the Coop Mobile product ( www.coopmobile.ch ). They are using Salt's network.

CHF 29.90 for 5GB at 4G speed plus calls/sms. SIM card CHF 40.- and a 2 month cancellation notice. The 5GB would be a bit much for our needs.

I will probably be going either with a Sunrise offer or Swisscom/virtual operator offer depending on signal strength at the school.

I use Swisscom, and the subscription price reduces the more mobiles you have. Excellent coverage not only in Switzerland, from mountain tops to valleys, but also worldwide.

Lyca may use Swisscom (i've been off them for some time) but they definitely cap the speed to around 16mbps..It was always stable at that speed so probably not an issue for your purpose but worth noting.Probably part of the reason it's cheap.

My wife is on COOP and has lots of problems, i dunno if it's her samsung s6 or the network but does things like just simply not work in CH even though it shows 4g on screen or data roaming very rarely works even though it's enabled .
