UPC cablecom DigiCard

So I just received one, my TV supports CI+ and I wanted the extra channels you get without paying any monthly subscription.

Anyway, installed it however it seems it doesn't accept the Network ID that I got from UPC in the box with the card, it's also the same ID when I check online at:

http://www.upc-cablecom.ch/en/support/tools/setup-id/

ID: 43063

Is anyone else using the same ID, did it work on first set up? As I've not been able to authenticate (all other parameters are correct), if anyone has a different ID and live in Swiss Romande area, could you post it so I could try that instead?

I did try searching for other addresses in different cantons, seems like the network ID is at least used in all of Geneva and Vaud (well Vaud that supports UPC cablecom, think it's not supported in Lausanne)

Have to wait till Monday for UPC, hence I figured maybe I'll find an answer on here which might work.

Sometimes takes a couple of days, after receipt of the card, for the system to recognise the card ID ....... that is, provided your happy that you've followed installation instructions from the relevant PDF and input the correct numeric parameters, as you say.

Otherwise be patient, and give it time ..... by the way, you should be able to contact customer services over the weekend.

Hi,

I hope your problems with the Digicard have disappeared by now, but if they did not then I would suggest something else you need to look at.

Make sure that in the documentation that you received with your card, the CA number (the card reader number) and your smart card number are identical to the numbers printed on your card reader and the smart card its self.

if either or both do not match, then the card will not work and you need to contact cablecom, give them the correct numbers for them to set & activate those for you.

good luck.

It's not working yet, each time I turn on the TV it asks for the network ID. I put it in and then about a minute later it says the entered value is invalid.

The numbers are the same between the paper, the box receipt and the onscreen settings of the CI card, not checked yet the actual card and module but I assume it's probably the same too.

One thing I noticed was when I try doing a channel search for:

Digital

UPC

Quick

With manual settings, inputting the network ID, frequency, QAM etc.

Then performing a search, it always finds nothing, like as if those parameters are incorrect.

When I do a full search, it finds all the channels, then I can input the network ID after I turn off and on the TV or if I go into Settings - Broadcast - CI menu, then from there I can input the network ID and see the serial numbers for the DigiCard and Module.

From the CI Menu, I can also perform a factory reset on the DigiCard, should I try that?

There's every chance that the card hasn't been centrally activated, yet - as I wrote above it can sometimes take a bit of time (a couple of days).

A channel reset and full channel search should be conducted prior to inserting the Digicard - as per instructions on the PDF link in my above post.

Contrary to what most people think, I believe that you can't use a Digicard, without some basic Cc. sub. - even though the Digicard is purchased. I can't 100% confirm this, as my contract includes a Digicard and two Mediaboxes.

I wouldn't try anything too drastic until you have spoken to Cc. Customer services - which I strongly recommend ....... as I previously wrote above, they are available during weekends - check times.

Reset the TV to factory settings and try again

Agree with the above! cablecom CS also advised me of this and it did work, albeit after some days of trying to figure out what the issue was.

STEP 1 of Cc.'s Instructions PDF - link above - is written to reset TV to default settings. These instructions are in English, if you scroll down to P.21, and are straight forward to follow.

Remove the DigiCard.

Reset the TV to default settings, ie no channels programmed.

Perform an automatic channel search, save the channel selection settings.

Insert the DigiCard.

Manual setup, enter the individual 4 parameters supplied by UPC Cablecom,

Frequency Mhz or KHz, Network ID, Modulation, Symbol Rate

---- 426 000 ---------- 43021 ---- QAM64 ----- 6900

Switch TV off and on, all available channels should now be visible.

I had reset the TV a few times before making this thread. The factory reset option I found is different, it's to reset the CI DigiCard to factory settings and not the whole TV.

Logged into My UPC when looking for support info and noticed it said my subscription was for HD MediaBox, I clicked on more details and it said DigiCard, strange. So I went to check the subscription I took and noticed there's a message saying that digital TV services will be available to purchase online from 4th February for my area (central Geneva). I ordered it online so maybe they've not activated it yet since they probably have to do that manually for the moment? The displayed price was for 0 CHF, there's no MediaBox subscriptions that are for 0 CHF.

I'll try the settings Sbrinz mentioned, my frequency is

370000 kHz

Network ID: 43063

Then same QAM 64 and 6900

Although I did mail cablecom (I'm in no rush to get it working, as I don't watch much TV but wanted the extra channels), so hopefully they'll mail me back later

Got a reply from UPC:

These are the parameter you have to use: Network-ID: 43060 Frequenz MHz: 426 Modulation: QAM64 Symbolrate: 6900

Tried those but no luck yet, also tried what sBrinz mentioned (each time resetting etc) although I was able to receive channels for the 37000 kHz frequency without having to do a Full search so it's getting better...

Will continue trying a few things. A colleague said he also had problems when he was setting his one up originally (in Saint Gallen then again in Moudon), also tried to factory reset the DigiCard.

When I reset the TV, then have to input the parameters without the card in the TV (card and module), do you guys find any channels? (digital only, not searching for analogue)

As I find nothing with the different parameters

NOTE: you do not need the DigiCard inserted to scan and find all 300+ digital TV channels.

So remove the DigiCard, and then follow the TV instructions to do a full Digital scan, using the parameters provided on the cablecom website.

The scan should reveal around 30 or so free to air digital channels, which you can receive WITHOUT a DigiCard

All the DigiCard does is decrypt the signal. It does not change how the TV recieves.

OK - silly question time ...... you have actually got Cablecom TV coming into your residence, and your TV is connected to this input (cable socket)?

Even without a Digicard, your TV should be able to connect to the basic free-to-air Swiss channels, but cable (in your case Cc.) input is required.

As mentioned above, all the Digicard does, is to decipher encrypted channels that require some kind of subscription; it doesn't mysteriously grab and display channels from the ether.

Two previously mentioned actions:

- follow the instructions in the PDF (link, post #2);

- deal with an English speaking Cc. Service asst. on the phone, to talk you through your set up problems.

There are two parts to the Digi-Card aren't there?

The larger carrier only plugs in one way, and you can

feel a little resistance as the pins connect.

The other part is like a white credit card with the gold

connections for the embedded chip. Is this card plugged

into the carrier the correct way? Maybe try it the other

way around?

Correct, you have a CAM module (Conditional Access Module), which is the housing, and a SmartCard, which fits into the CAM module

Together they are called the "DigiCard"

Basically, I can only find the digital channels if I do a Full Scan or a Network scan and not a Quick Scan. However, Quick Scan is the only method which allows me to put the input parameters... And no matter what parameters I try when doing a quick scan, it ends almost instantly and doesn't find any channels.

If I do a full scan, then after turn off the TV and insert the DigiCard (both parts, inserted correctly), then turn on the TV, it automatically tries to authenticate then pops up the please insert network ID... And no matter which ID I use, it always says invalid.

The full scan reveals around 430 channels and I'm able to watch the free digital channels (50 something with around 15 HD channels), UPC contacted me to schedule a call in English so they might be able to help.

I know that the card is inserted correctly since if I try the other way , it complains on my TV that the card is not inserted correctly.

Then you are not entering the correct network parameters in the QuickScan

Which shows the parameters are not correct

Once this scan is complete, you do not need to do any further scans. If the TV found 430 channels, it found everything.

You will be able to tune to all channels.

You will be able to watch the unencrypted channels without the DigiCard

This shows the tuning was successful.

So all you need to do now is sort out why the DigiCard doesn't recognise the Network ID....
