We have a subscription with UPC for telephone, TV and internet, that we have just cancelled, because we were very unhappy with their help desk service. Now it looks like there is no better alternative - with Swisscom a subscription for telephone, TV and internet costs more. We live in Zurich and wonder if there are other providers, besides UPC and Swisscom.
Sure, you also have such package by Sunrise. They all have their strength and weakness. Sometimes it might also be better not to take a bundle. It really depends on what you want.
NAXOO used to be responible for everything in Geneva, now it is UPC Cablecom.
I signed in for a 'free' TV offer.
Not free. I had bills for TV that is advertised as free.
I then joined a consumer conferderation ( Fédération de Consommateurs de Romandie) and I started sending back bills, registered mail.
After 2 months they gave up.
I strongly advise anyone to avoid cable TV in Switzerland and plumb for web based TV like ZATTOO that can be received via the internet.
Annual inscription Zattoo 65Fr per year versus UPC Cablecom TV minimum 10Fr a month.
Zattoo has a free version, paying version is then on all devices, Ipad, Itouch, the works (online via your computer as well) and you can use a box to transform your TV into a smart TV as advertised on the ZATTOO website.
Other TV sites exist: Teleboy for example. Never tried other sites. ZATTOO has all UK terrestrial channels. Plus many German, French and Italian channels as well.
they generally are fine from my experience on upc service(telephone or email contact). 24h/24h and efficient.i did a largely comparasion before subscription.considering of speed and price, there is no better internet choice than upc in zurich(Tv quality a bit suck).this is not an advertisemnt. i dunt work for them !
Where in Ticino as it seems UPC is there at least in some locations.
I checked on the swiss cable website (which lists all cable providers) and this leads to this search page which should tell you which cable network you will have if any and what services they provide.
I have checked that the building in front of mine is served with Cablecom, but not mine (on the website and also on the phone with them).
It's possible to have their service somehow, but I would have to pay a lot of money (since Swisscom is already there, the landlord is not going to pay).
I'll have a look on the website you suggested, thanks
Do they provide at least the basic TV/Radio service in your building? In that case, it's usually a matter of upgrading the wiring to get Internet and Cablecom does it for free, provided that the landlord has a maintenance contract with them. (I had it done for two places where I moved into as a tenant and for the flat we bought).
If there is no cable connection at all, then yes...wiring it is very expensive.
By the way recently UPC had an advertising campaign saying that they now cover all Tessin... now I realise it was a bit far-fetched..
forget sunrise. And lets compare.UPC Horizon Super Combi CHF 125. With 250 Mbits/sec. Swisscom Vivo XL.CHF169. 300 Mbits/sec. When you cancel your Cablecom connection for radio and TV then you can subtract 30 CHF from Swisscom costs=139 CHF for Swisscom. Thats not alot more and you get the best service all round
I have 250/phone/Comfort TV for 82 a month. Distance from the exchange doesn't matter. Customer service doesn't matter as it's just as reliable in the end (actually, my neighbours constantly have Swisscom to fix this and that plus just got new modem (again) and new TV box. Mine just works.
