UPC CABLECOM price increase spring 2015

I recently upgraded to the Horizon Plus Trio package from whatever mid-range package they had before.

My cost has (well, will) go up from 95/month to 99/month but I get two months at 59/month so it's worth swapping, as no doubt I'll swap again in a year or so to whatever's new.

They don't charge the activation fee any more for existing customers doing these swaps (in reality if you emailed them to say the activation fee seemed unfair, they woul waive it anyway).

If you go for the top package, the Super Trio, you get a slightly revised Horizon box. It's a bit smaller, doesn't run as hot, the ports on the back are slightly better arranged and is also a bit faster. But the firmware and overall design is pretty much the same. So I didn't bother, as the Super doesn't offer any extra English language channels that I want (although Nat Geo and some others are occasionally in English).

I have....I dont understand why really. It can go days at a time working great and then have a day like sunday where it was almost entirely off line. There are also days where it goes offline for a few minutes then is back.

What is strange is that this been a problem the past three years. It always seems to start in the summer. Each time I call cablecom and they try fixing it by phone and miraculously it starts working...for a few days. Then it doesnt work again and after 2-3 repeats they finally send someone. I never noticed that the technician actually fixed something. However, after they leavet works perfectly until next summer.

Im probably paranoid but its as if they are messing with me until I pony up and get the really expensive packet.

I just looked at the upgrade options and for me the activation fee is not waived. I might have considered it but there is no way I will pay 79 chf to "upgrade"

I am still on the old package with the old receiver and separate modem.

I pay 85 chf for 250 mb and the 135 channels. Telephone is included but i pay by the minute

They are offering 200 mB, and 135 channels plus telephone with 1000 mobile minutes for 99 chf.

It might be worth paying 14 chf more for one fewer device and the 1000 minutes. (mobile bill would go down)

Just ring them up and tell them to waive the fee.

Hi,

looking at getting cablecom or swisscom tv to replace and existing satellite connection. I am shocked how expensive this is likely to be. I don't need a horizon box, a mediabox would be sufficient. I am not sure about a digicard as I don't see how you could record from it unless the digicard is in the hdd recorder. What is a pain is to get all UK tv stations I need to get the Cablecom comfort package. I don't need a horizon box as it offers nothing that I require.

It looks like you have to pay for a new subscription for each tv, that seems a real racket. In the past with analogue you just connect the tv in each room and paid per household.

Swisscom is even more expensive.

My internet connection is 50mb and with that we can stream Netflix to 2 tv's at the same time. What on earth would you need to 100mb or more?

What do other people do ?

Have fun

Martin

What was wrong with the satellite? Just out of interest.

Hi Adrian,

Where did you find out that the box is a revised smaller cooler one?

Thanks

Kevin

I was part of the trial (and had to return it at the end of the trial, unfortunately). Some people said the fans kicked in much quicker and hence the box was noisier, but I found the opposite. Maybe it depends how much TV one watches and what type of enclosure the box is in.

yes. With Cablecom you don't have any rights. Change immediately to Swisscom!

Should I open a new thread?

Next prices increase in sight. January 1 2016 : Basic cable connection fee rises CHF 4 to CHF 33.95

For renters: The basic cable connection fee is sometimes hidden in your auxiliary charges, which means you will get billed an extra CHF 48 with your yearly auxiliary charges break down.

Typical overseas owned company! Its called UPC shit.

Interesting, I noticed absolutely no difference between the two boxes (I was in the trial as well). It wasn't faster, it wasn't quieter, and I only noticed it was smaller when I tried to use the box it came in to store the older box.

The cable plugs in the back are a bit better organized, though.

Today with digital you just connect the TV in every room and pay per household and enjoy over 70 digital channels (loads more than you ever had in the past with analogue).

Channel list here:

Purple are the ones included with the basic cable connection.

You only need to purchase a subscription (either a digicard, 1 per TV/receiver, or a Box, 1 per TV) if you want the extra channels which are not included in the basic susbscription.

I already mentioned the next price increase in sight:

But now all doors are open. Monsieur Prix Stefan Meierhans, said that he will no longer regulate Cablecom prices, as there are enough market players offering TV options: Swisscom TV, Sunrise TV, Migros Budget etc., over phone line or fiber. Have fun.

Price increase January 2016 (but only if you now have 50 or 125 Mbit/s Internet):

I've been a customer of Cablecom for a number of years now and the initial price was CHF99 for their combi package (phone, internet,TV).

Now over time my basic monthly bill has crept up to CHF109.80 however on CC's website, there is still available a CHF99 3 service combi package.

Has anyone else got this issue/experience?

Is it feasible to terminate my existing contract and then sign-up again.

Also curiously my invoice says 250 Power Combi however no such speed exists! (not that I've even reached 200, but that's for another topic).

Thoughts?

Anyway I've written to them asking for an explanation ... will write back with their response.

I switch my package whenever I notice a new deal, although they've all been at least 12 months apart. If I tried to change sooner I'd probably not be allowed although moving to a more expensive deal (even if an intro offer makes it cheaper overall!) should be possible.

My current one is a few CHF more a month than I was paying before, but I got two months discounted so over a year it works out cheaper (and gives me faster internet). Once the year is up I'll switch to a new deal if there is one, or wait for one to be announced.

The t&c's for changes to subscription rates (such as the upcoming 4 CHF increase for some people) state that you can use that opportunity to switch to a new package even if you're within your 12 month contractual period of the current package you have.

I do wonder whether going from 125 to 250Mb/s means they'll need to send out the new horizon boxes, as I originally thought only the new models had a modem inside capable of handling those speeds.

For what it's worth I've had 250Mbps for a while with the first Horizon box (got it very soon after they introduced Horizon, I still remember the pain it was to activate it that first weekend...).

I've tested the new box and didn't really notice any improvements, though. It didn't seem faster and didn't have more space - it was a tiny bit smaller and that was it. But I've seen other people also say that the new boxes are better, so I wonder if it was really better and I didn't notice or if I got a bad/worse box to test.

Thanks for that. I guess the old boxes can handle the new speed then. Pity.

I also trialled the new box and it was smaller, faster to turn on, slightly faster in use (although the new firmware in the old boxes and equalised that) and it ran cooler. I just wanted a new box

How do you go about switching?

Is there a standard service that does this, or do you cancel and then re-apply ... but I guess this method would incur a new application fee of CHF75.
