UPC CABLECOM price increase spring 2015

I just log in and select the new package online; it works out that I already have a package and calculates the cost to switch. If the new deal doesn't come automatically with a waiver for the activation fee, an email to support asking politely why they're charging to activate something which is already activated gets it waived.

Well its official folks! a friend got the letter from cablecom about the price increase and it is actually not bad news. Speed jump up from 125Mbps to 250Mbps and upload from 10Mbps to 25Mbps. Based on his current package and event with the price increase (89CHF/Month) it is still the cheapest of the current offering that cablecom has!

He does though wish they had a better router (updated version) to give with their package!!

Anyway, here is the letter:

Surf the net twice as quickly from Christmas for only CHF 4 more per month Internet performance requirements are constantly increasing. Apps, programs and functions are increasingly diverse and require larger data volumes. Last year alone, average Internet use per household increased by 49%.

As one of the leading Internet providers, it is our task to provide you with the most high-performing network of the future. That is why we have decided to increase your Internet speed from 125 Mbit/s to 250 Mbit/s from Christmas.

That means: you can surf the net twice as quickly as before while using even more devices simultaneously at lighting speed. you can watch films or listen to music online with no waiting times. you can process large data volumes even more quickly and more efficiently.

At the same time, we will also be increasing your upload speed from 10 Mbit/s to 25 Mbit/s . This means that any photos, videos or other data that you upload or send by e-mail will reach the intended recipients all the more quickly.

To ensure that you continue to enjoy excellent and efficient broadband Internet access both today and more particularly in the future, we invest more than 200 million Swiss francs every year in expanding and upgrading our infrastructure. To be able to cover the costs of this continuous development, we find ourselves obliged to increase the price of our individual or combination deal Internet subscriptions by CHF 4* per month from 1 January 2016.

The adjustment will take place automatically . You do not need to do anything. If you do not agree with the change, you can of course switch to a different subscription in our current range of offers at any time or withdraw from the contract prior to its expiration date effective 1 January 2016.

We wish you continued entertainment with our ultra-fast Internet services in the future.

Plans details updated:

http://www.upc-cablecom.ch/content/w...horizon-trios/

Well with those new offers, they are very competitive and better then the current deal that my friend has. He is adamant though at keeping the current setup (digicard, separate router for the internet&phone) is best as they had many many issues with the horizon box when they initially tried it.

Here is the dilemma, his package is similar to the new trio start but it is actually cheaper to go to the horizon offer, see below detail!

Current package:

125/10Mbps, classic digicard TV package and unlimited landline+1000min mobile -->85CHF (Jan-2016 89CHF)

The trio start package:

100/10Mbps, classic horizon TV package and unlimited landline+1000min mobile -->79CHF

The question is, does any one have any idea what one can do to make cablecom keep the "current package" or setup and get the trio start package or at the very least not increase the price (ie arrange some kind of monthly refund). Can one negotiate with cablecom?

good for internet and telephone. But bad for TV

I've got same letter few days ago. They want to increase price from 68 to 72. Three years ago when I signed contract with them price was 60 and their 3-in-1 socket was around 26chf/month. Next year will be 72+34=106chf. I think it's time to switch to fibre. Prices goes down here.

I talked yesterday with my landlord and he said they will seal the cablecom socket in my apartment and I will not pay these 34chf in my Nebenkosten anymore. He already did it for himself and is very happy.

I'm choosing a fibre provider for myself. Has anyone experience with 1tv.ch ? Their rates are very attractive, but I can't find any feedback.

Would be very wary about 1tv. Absolutely no info on their home page or in internet.Support? Does it exist.

Dont forget if you seal your connection then you lose radio as well.

Would advise Green

http://www.green.ch/en-us/internet,t...multiplus.aspx

85 CHF mth ( free telephone festnetz-max 500 mins )

Cheap is not always good.

I have no interest for their radio. Really wonder if anyone is listening it.

I have DAB+ receiver and over internet there are tons of stations available.

Even tv, I just need 5-10 channels, not more.

Green is not available in Winti and I have two other options - GGA maur and Sunrise. Their prices starts from 65 CHF and I've heard positive feedback on them.

The best offer in my area is fiber7 - symmetric 1Gbit for 64.75 CHF/month but I just don't need that much! Would be happy to get 50 times less for half price. And then some francs on top for the basic tv and incoming phone calls.

Back to 1tv, they offer one month of free testing, sounds good to give it a try.

********* Warning complaining/moaning/grumbling Post *********

Up to today, I have had a really good experience with cablecom but today, I had a prolonged conversation with a very "arrogant" customer service person from Cablecom invoice and contract department who was trying to convice me that paying the 89CHF come Jan for the digicard+ 125 (250 in Jan) Internet + Phone is a much better deal then the Horizon + 100 Internet + Phone for 79CHF and he actually was telling me that he knows better then any of the other people in "his" company that told me otherwise and have so far advices me to change. he kept on saying that the new price hike will effect all members and my feedback to him was no, the prices on the website have not changed since July and indeed all those who subscribed in July have had their speed doubled for the same price!

Even when I said then change me to the 79CHF deal with Horizon he said "well sure but I'll charge you the activation fee" and when I tried to explain that that the internet is full of people to whom this fee was waived and they changed to new package and maybe he could do the same for me, he said "NO, that does not happen!!" The final stroke was when he told me "Sir, I work for this company, you don't so I know best!"

For me, it is here goes the cancelation letter...

bye bye Cablecom.....hello Swisscom Well was service person German?

Yes he was and I think this is where the issue is. As I said until now I have had a really good experience with cablecom-CS. Indeed over the past 2 weeks I spook to them at least 5 times (issues with the router with the change to IP6) and they have all been absolutely spot on (although technically not always) but at the very least empathetic, understanding and helpful. For me the price increase and the fact that I am getting less service for more money (relative to Horizon) is just not on and I wanted to resolve that.

Maybe, I should try to call again and speak to some other person, what do you guys think?

Well simply get the Trio Start-but it has only 30 Hours replay.Negotiate for no activation fee. Some of the germans in support services can be pretty obnoxious-in my case I like to speak German with them but my experience is that have no patience if one does not understand what they are saying and ask them to repeat

Yes, but try to keep the conversation short. Say what package you're on, what you want to move to, and why you want the activation fee waived (the rise in cost of your current plan).

well, just tried to change my package and I could not get out having the activation charge waived, this time I got the answer "it is done automatically and there is nothing I can do about it" response. I think I will wait until next month and try again .. unless others have a trick down their sleeve which they are welling to share!?

I called cablecom on Friday to cancel my subscription. Spent more than 15 minutes on the phone with 3 different persons who tried to keep me as a client and did their best to understand why I want to cancel and to find better/cheaper subscription plan for me. I was very tired at the end, and at that point was not that sure what I want but still managed to cancel starting from 1.01. Funny was that the lady said: "you don't pay for the 3-in-1 plug, it's included in your Nebenkosten!". This was actually the point when I took the final decision.

BTW, if I decide get back to them, they promise to pay back 200 CHF: http://www.upc-cablecom.ch/de/tools/...ecom-wechseln/

did any of the people you talked to offer to waive the activation fee or was that not a topic that came up for discussion at all?

And now the activation fee is CHF 89. That's almost doubling the cost in less than a year.

There was no any word regarding activation fee, probably because we didn't get that far.

And look, you even can get 550.- if you join them until Christmas at interdiscount. Is it logical to ask for the activation fee at all?

it is valid only for a trio product range and it seams that cablecom still only offers 200CHF, the extra 350 is coming from interdiscount in voucher form. one still have to have all three products (TV+Phone+Internet) and move them from current provider to cablecom to get the full advantage of the rebate!

Another price hike on the activation fee, it is now 99CHF
