Just run your own resolver-cache on your router.
Or do you mean the authoritative servers?

for your dns instead.. all reliable

A day doesn't go by where the service doesn't disconnect at least once. Then it's unplug and re-plug the router.

This isn't normal - get your line checked and your router. I had a lot of disconnection issues but after UPC exchanged the router, they were all gone. Been running rock stable for over a year now. Can't say the same for my Swisscom TV thing :-/

While not daily, I can second this. Every 1-2 weeks I have to disconnect and reconnect their router.
Haven't pissed me off enough to complain about it.

I have UPC and the same happens on a weekly basis. So frustrating. I have heard that Sunrise is pretty good but have no personal experience with them.
its probably got nothing to do with UPC but has to do with your setup
What's weird is that just before disconnecting it makes 2x a knocking sound.

This is a HW issue, you need to replace your box. Just call UPC and they will send you a replacement unit.

Have had UPC wireless internet in Zurich and moved the same set-up to Basel.

Do you use chromecast? Chromecast is known to interfere with Wifi

Or perhaps you use something else which interferes with it?
UPC service is pretty flawless in my opinion. I work from home and I go months(literally 2 or 3 months) without needing to restart anything.
Hint: Put the UPC device in bridging mode and buy some decent gear.
