UPS showing my laptop good time :)

Here is the story, I ordered alienware laptop 2 weeks ago and it was supposed to arrive last monday (26th) but apparently UPS messed it up and my laptop is in brussells now

Below is the package tracking information,

Shanghai,cn - 23.07

Arlesheim,ch - 26.07

EINDHOVEN,NL - 27.07

Brussels,BE - 28.07

When i called UPS they say that they put my laptop on wrong plane and gave new delivery date as 30th July... Has anyone had such experience with UPS?

I'd be very careful inspecting the package when it arrives. It's been all over the world, and electronics don't always travel very well. If the box was partially damaged I would reject it at the door..

yeah i worked for them, wouldn't trust them a bit !

you'd be surprised of what goes wrong every day, or how parcels end up with the customer.

You as receiver can't do anything, only the shipper can so its out of your hands i'm afraid.

I had a case like that on Friday afternoon, a lady was waiting on her wedding dress to get married on Saturday morning.. dress left in Italy with destination Dublin, but ended up on the wrong plain in Germany.. Dress got delivered on Tuesday.. needles to say the bride to be was p-d off a good bit with Ups , and all i could say is " its not our fault, contact the shipper, you can't request anything as the receiver.

This is all to be covered by the Ups rules, saying its all your fault and never theirs..

Just a last piece of advice, Be careful shipping with them.. check your invoice regarding Import charges as they f- up on that allot..

Thanks, i will check the box throughly before accepting. There is insurance on the delivery so i am a bit relieved. Also i bought the laptop from switzerland site(dell.ch) so there shouldn't be any import charges right?

But i feel its really weird that the package came to switzerland and sent out!!!

Not sure about that, the main warehouse they use to dispatch from was in Germany so its well possible it has left and made a u turn back.

Its not because its ordered from the Swiss website, it will actually be shipped from there.

But in this case, i don't think it would be fair to charge you import tax.. but ring Ups and check, at least you won't have that to think about.

Import is an automated process, they don't care where it came from or goes to, once it brought into the country, its billed, unless you ring ahead and check, so they can adjust it in the system.

At least ,thats how we did it 5 years ago, not sure how the rules are now.

Thats her fault for not being prepared though. I mean, wtf? Who would do that?

I bought from Dell .ch few times and i was never charged customs fees

My wedding rings were ordered from a local jeweller here in Zurich at a producer in Germany. The package got lost completely and ended up in some sort of "global UPS lost&found" in .... Memphis, Tenessee!

The "high value, express, insured" packaged needed literally two weeks!

Yes, we fortunately planned long enough in advance, but I can see people getting hit hard if the promised "overnight" turns into two weeks.

Not quite the same but still a bad experience...UPS have been VERY unhelpful regarding deliveries, I bought Mac computers from the Apple online store and they use UPS, the problem is that you have to be in to accept delivery, they will not leave the parcel with a neighbour unless you arrange that separately then they will not specify a delivery time so said friend or neighbour must stay in all day.... I live in Lorrach (yes I know not Switzerland) and the delivery centre for UPS is Freiburg so if you can't arrange delivery you have to travel yourself 120Km round trip.... UPS ... pretty useless if you ask me!!!

Yes, its seems to be stupid not leave with the neighbour, over that the update process in the UPS site seems to be pretty weird... yesterday night it said the scheduled delivery date is moved from 30th July to 2nd August and package currently in Brussels... and now the status says package is in switzerland and out for delivery I have couple of meetings today at office and they say they cant leave the package at my neighbours

UPS is by far the worst delivery service i have ever experiences...

Here on the bright side is the situation a bit better, but still annoying: Every single time I had to take my car and drive to some industrial area in Rümlang (really out in the sticks near the airport - where the failed "foxtown outlet" used to be). My post office is a two minute walk from my apartment...

as shipper I do not use UPS at all anymore. They simply do not keep commitments, they delay parcels in strange places, and they offer nothing but lame excuses.

I use FedEx, slightly dearer but reliable. As their ad says, "... absolutely, positively ..."

For court documents UPS can leave you in default, missing key deadlines.

That said, a particular UPS driver in San Francisco made a redelivery the same day after I was out and explained to his depot that I was leaving shortly for the airport to catch a flight to Europe. It was just a pair of shoes from amazon.com, but still worthy of recognition.

Ow you would be surprised, people try to find ways to ship things cheaper or faster..

Ups and all others charge by Volume weight, so sending a wedding ring in an " express envelope ", ( for documents only) is cheaper then sending it by parcel

Doing so, i got a screaming groom on the phone, calling me all sorts of names, as the diamond studded ring was now just a ring.. most of the little gem's scattered inside the cardboard envelope, or got lost.

As cardboard envelopes are only used for paperwork, they pass a series of wheels and rolling parts to guide it around the place, this was bending the stones out of the ring and left it egged shaped.

needles to say , according to this being his fault for being cheap, and not packing it sufficiently ( the favorite line in ups to cover their backs), he didn't get a refund, and one day before his wedding, did not have the ring he wanted for his future wife..

Here is a golden rule Ups swears by : Sufficient packaging means the parcel can be dropped from 2m high without damaging the goods inside.. so if you ever claim, " insufficient packed, claim denied " is what you will get not sure how it is now but when i worked there, that was the standard.

I can tell you ton's of stories like this, people getting locked out of their car on holidays, brother in law sends keys with ups and oh..delayed, parcel ended up in other country, so frustrated car owner rings us and gives out as his holiday was now ended, he didn't have a room anymore and was asked to leave the parking asap.. hard enough without keys

Don't get me started on fraud/scams that happened.. A guy in Holland bought a jet ski online, and paid via Western Union.. he rings up and asks, " do your van's have a towbar". i go," sorry what? no,why would they?" ow im just wondering how you are going to deliver my jetski i bought of ebay, the shipper said to send it by Ups.. ( seriously how stupid are you ) I told him to inform the police as he by now lost his money - he then later that week rang back, asking my name and employee number so he could file a complaint as i didn't inform him this was a scam.. mind you, he rang me 2 days after he made the payment.. never got a complaint form on my desk

same things happened with mobile phones, someone paid a good bit of money for 12 new phones, bought in Romania, he rang me the day before transfering the money asking, " does it happen allot and should i do it ", i recommended him , as we saw it daily , not todo so, it was a scam and the account was not existing.

Ignoring this he went ahead, paid for the phones, only to receive a box by post with bricks and a sarcastic note " love from romania" .. fella rings me again and now says he is going to hold me responsible for this, i should give him his money back or he would go to the police.. you muppet.. never heard of him again

I'm sure this happens with Dhl,Fed Ex or any courier service out there, i was just on the wrong end of the phone, getting all these complaints, rarely got compliments from a customer

great days.. wonderful times.. never again

There is a reason behind the Ups rule.. in the passed they left expensive parcels such as computers with the neighbor.. ( happened on my shift)

Long story short , Person A living beside person B ,they fell out some months ago as he damaged his borrowed lawnmower, and now refuses to pay for it.

Mister A orders a Pc online, worth 2000 chf, but is not home to receive it.

Ups driver thinks ahead and says " i don't want to be here again with this heavy parcel tomorrow, ill drop it off with the neighbors "

Mister B happily accepts the computer but "forgets" to inform Mister A ,whom he fell out with .

Mister A rings Ups, gives out, gets the proof of delivery and notices the name of B on the paper.. Ups done their job, its delivered and signed for.

This was brought to court, Ups had to pay a sum as settlement, the pc was returned to the correct owner after court came in between.

The parcel needs to be delivered to the address and signed for by a member that lives there. ( for private deliveries only, not companies), this is why a delivery guy can ask you for proof ( bill or something in your name at the address ) to prove that you actually live there.

I actually, last week , couldn't sign for a parcel on my girlfriends name because well..i was not her ,Moobs or not, i couldn't fool the guy , she had to go and collect it.

So just to be sure the goods don't come in to wrong hands, they can not deliver next door, as to many issues cropped up doing that before.
