Don‘t have a personal GP yet here, but have Swiss health and supplemental insurance. Is there an urgent care clinic near Zollikon or in Zurich that you can recommend. I seemed to have sustained an injury over the weekend that is not going away and I need to check out. Thanks!
As it isn't clear from your post... I am not sure if you are aware, but it is important if your injury is from an accident or not.
If you are employed, your employer almost certainly (not 100% certain, but likely) has accident insurance for you which covers all accidents, regardless if they occur on the job or not without any deductable .
You'll have to inform your employer and they'll give you the accident insurance information which will likely cover 100% of all medical costs related to the accident (doctors visits, follow up visits, psysical therapy etc..).
Close to you in Zollikon is https://www.medforbalance.ch/ , this is our GP Dr Sacherer and has room for new patients also in the same practice is an Osteopath who is excellent.
If you can find somewhere else, keep away from the ERs of the big hospitals, not because they're bad, but you'll be triaged on arrival and if you aren't dying, you may end up waiting for some time.
In this context accident means injury. Your post-skiing problem will be covered by your accident insurance (from your employer if you have one). Getting sick with a disease is covered under your health care cover.
The phrasing that I've heard is something like "an accident is an unexpected external event which caused injury". If you report it as an accident to your employer, their insurance company will likely want you to fill out a report of what happened, and roughly speaking, this is what they'll be looking for when reading it.
If they are unsure they may ask questions, but the only real risk is that it'll be declare a health insurance matter instead. In some cases both the accident and health insurance lawyers might argue around your statement to decide who has to pay. If you end up with, say, a torn muscle or ligament diagnoses, I'd expect you can argue it as an accident, even if you cannot pinpoint the slope which caused it.
Whether it is determined to be an accident or health insurance matter, there are lots of places you can go. I once had a good experience with the Sihlcity office of SportClinic Zurich - it was probably either a same day or next day appointment, and they have an MRI machine in that building.
As already mentioned, Permanence runs a walk-in clinic at HB, and the emergency room at any of the hospitals will at least check you out if you go in worried. These options can both involve some hours wait, depending on how busy they are.
Not actually true. For example once I had an ankle injury after skiing. My ankle was swollen and I could hardly stand on it. It gradually got worse from late afternoon/early evening. Still have no idea what happened, it was some sort of inflammation. I had had no accident, no fall etc, the inflammation was probably caused by skiing but I had not had an accident. It went my on health insurance. For it to go on your accident insurance there has to be a specific "event" that causes an injury.
If you do declare it as an accident, you'll find you have better cover as you don't have to contribute your personal 10% of the costs. If you're not working and your accident cover is included in your regular health insurance then that's unfortunately not the case.
One other resource for anyone searching urgent medical attention is onedoc.ch, a basic search engine for booking doctors appointments. We used it to find a PCR test station with available appointments, quite clever concept.
