URGENT! I need to find a shoulder surgeon, any recommendation?

Hello all,

I had an accident and seems like I need to have an operation from my shoulder. Can anybody recommend me a good surgent who is specialist on shoulder in Zurich?

Thank you..

The Schultess clinic is supposed to be very good for shoulder surgery.

Another clinic specializing in orthopedics is Balgrist . They have a very good reputation for surgical skill and orthopedic knowledge. A year or two back I had ankle surgery there and saw nothing inconsistent with this, but did have some secondary frustrations. I would certainly go back there for anything complex or tricky.

Hi Zuricher

Sorry to hear about your accident. I can suggest a shoulder specialist, who works with many of the Ice hockey players. So thats a very good recommendation.

But as always in CH, you should get a second opinion / quote for the surgeon, hospital, recovery costs, physio .....

Hi, did you find already. I am at the start of a similar journey and any information will help.

I've had surgery on both shoulders, the first by Dr. Barbara Wirth and the second by Dr. Hans-Kaspar Schwyzer, both at the Schulthess Klinik. Both did fantastic jobs. The facilities there during your stay are fantastic (like a hotel) and they have a great rehab centre onsite with water therapy and physiotherapy. I very much recommend these the doctors and the hospital itself.

I had shoulder surgery in September 2015 with Professor Meyer at Balgrist.

I liked him and he did a good job. He was spot on about the recovery process and when my recovery slowed, he took some steps to get it progressing again which was pleasing. He is a busy man - speaks excellent english and I always enjoyed seeing him.

I found the PT - particularly the water therapy at Balgrist to be very good. I went twice a week to do my shoulder exercises in the pool for 6 months.

Sadly shoulders take a LONG time to heal! As you will discover, they are very complicated. His estimate for me was that full recovery would take about 2 years.

Happy to answer any other questions.

I just had a shoulder luxation (2nd time it happens) and the doctor told me I should see an orthopedic surgeon to consider surgery.

I don't think my insurance would cover for this, so would anyone know how much should a surgery like this cost in case I had to bear the cost myself?

I guess this could vary a lot, but I really have no idea if this is a 5k or a 5k+ thing, so any info on this would be very helpful.

My wife's shoulder pops out a couple or three times a year at least.

She's been told to have surgery but equally she's been told instead to perform various simple exercises to strengthen the arm and shoulder muscles.

The problem is she won't commit to the five minutes of time or so each day that the exercises need.

I am afraid I can not help on the cost as insurance fully covered my costs as it was an accident. Given all of the PT involved afterwards, I think you can safely assume it is 5k +.

It is definitely something that would help to have covered by insurance.

All the best!

p.s. My shoulder is now back to 90+% Probably as good as it will ever be. I am pleased... though I found the recovery period to be much longer than I would have liked...
