Jackleaves - you can just walk pass these places to check them out. They're not far from each other (I mean Ah Hua, Roi Et, Som Tam, Lily's, Sugar Lounge).
I completely second the picnic idea for a romantic pre-dinner.
If you do it before the Freitag shop closes, you could even get on their Tower. It's very, very basic, but you get a good view and it would be memorable... but like I said, a matter of personal tastes
(I would check it out first before planning, in case it's not what you were after)
Oh, also- there are two An hua's, both very close to each other. One is a little bistro, and the other is a takeaway with a couple of foldaway tables. I'd suggest the Bistro (if you do decide to go there), but if its over the weekend, booking ahead is a good idea. It gets very busy there.
I found the food at Lily's to be "Falang spicy". That is, not very.
I rather like Roi-Et-Thai Food AG . IMO the food is good Thai food. Thais go there. Staff are friendly. Food pain factor goes from one to 3 chillies. Don't go higher than two unless you know what you're doing!
Ah- Hua is the best Thai food in the city (in my opinion)- especially for the price! I have been to Bang Song Thai, Blue Monkey & Lily's and none of them come close to Ah-Hua.
Well it looks like I'm responsible for EF people going on dates to Thai restaurants!! Don't do anything I would do ;-)
I'm going to try the cocktail place either on Badenerstrasse near the cinema or Sugar Lounge then it's off to Ah Hua for dinner. Will only go to lakeside if evening warm and dry... Wish me luck :-)
Funny, my other half always drags me for chips when drunk, and McDonalds at Stauffacher is often the nearest place. She is prepared to miss the last tram home for chips!! It is indeed a grim prospect when you are craving a chicken shish kebap (as I always am!)
Lily's do a home delivery service. Reasonably priced , well for Zurich. All the meals come in tiffin boxes so are very hot. So you could then splash out on a bottle of bubbly.
