Urinary Tract Infections

have you considered restricting intimate activities to blowjobs?

UTI's are definitely not my strong point, but how about a box of these for the bf:

Writing under my husband's login (must get my own for these kind of threads) but if you go into a specialist they will no doubt use a catheter to run tests. They can ascertain whether your urethra is narrow while trying to fit the catheter - if they have difficultly, it may be the cause of the frequent infections. I went in for a follow up in-office procedure, and voila - no more UTIs.

They're not generally transmitted that way.

I like how you mentioned 'generally'

how did i get here?

Probably should have worded it differently. What I mean is they're not a sexually transmitted disease so your card is off. ;p However, the same bacteria that caused the woman's infection could in theory cause one in the man. But it's not 'contagious' as such. Rare to see in men due to anatomical differences (urethra length). Consider yourself lucky to be a guy in this instance!

Hey,

I used to suffer and still occasionally get UTI, its horrible, I couldnt get any sleep during one of these. From experience i can recommend: lots of water, avoiding sugar (bacteria lives on sugar), plenty of vitamin c, sour cabbage etc.

Also, I would boil water with herbs like camomille , pour in a backet and sit on it, the hot steam has soothing effects. You and your guy BOTH have to maintain hygiene, you may be super clean but if he isn't, it can give you bacteria that otherwise is perfectly harmless for him. I have also discovered a special substance called D-mannose that helps to kill e- coli, read the link:

Make sure you dont suffer from any other conditions like STD (chlamydia can have similar symptoms)

good luck

forgot to add, that try to wash yourself with water after each visit to the toilet

The D-Mannose product seems to be available in CH.

Some links (in DE) about the product - Meropharm® Mannose

Hi everyone,

Firstly I'd like to say sorry for not replying sooner, but things have been busy and I wanted to write a comprehensive reply. Thanks to everyone for their input. When I wrote the OP, I'd had one infection and indications of another starting. I tested my urine and had leukocytes. However, I managed to fend it off. Since then, I haven't had another infection (although I have felt like I've been constantly fighting them - not sure how much of that is psychological and how much is physical as every time I've tested my urine, it's been fine). I think the reason for the infection was that I'd become complacent about the basic stuff you should do to prevent it.

In the interest of potentially helping anyone else who is having this problem, here are my thoughts:

Basic prevention techniques mentioned

- Urinate before and after sex

- Make sure both parties are clean

- Drink plenty of water in your everyday life

- Drink cranberry juice/take cranberry capsules

- Wipe front to back

- Don't walk barefoot around the house

- Wear cotton underwear

- Wear loose-fitting clothing (not tights etc)

- Avoid acidic foods

- Empty bladder completely

- Use pH neutral, non-perfumed soap

- Check for STDs!

Courses of action in initial stages of repeat infections

- Long-term, low dose antibiotics

- Uro-Vaxom

- Monurelle (something I'm trying right now)

- D-Mannose

Radical courses of action

- Bladder check (stretches urethra?)

- Over-filling bladder (medical procedure) to stretch it

- Some kind of non-specified operation

- Change partner...

Luckily for me, things seem to be stable right now. I hope it continues like this and I hope the information in this thread can help someone else - otherwise, you guys know way too much about my urethra for no good reason!

Many thanks again to everyone for the help!

So after posting that yesterday, I seemingly randomly get an infection today (two days after last having sex). That'll teach me to be so optimistic...

Arrgh - what a pain! I am so sorry and hope you find a solution soon. Hope somebody can recommend a good specialist you can consult and find a permanent way to avoid this.

Kamarate, I haven't had the time to check the entire shtick here, but providing it's not reoccurring ecoli (could be caused by as simple stuff as constipation, the membranes of some are thin,or too much thongs, poor after poop hygiene,etc..), it could be entirely mechanical irritation of your urethra (since it's after sex).

This stuff changed my wife's life !!!

Before she found this sugar she had even been hospitalised due to UTI.

She orders it direct from the US. The second link is who she orders it through...

Well that's my good deed for the day

I have heard a lot of good things about D-Mannose. I'd also heard good things about Uro-Vaxom and Monurelle which didn't work. However, I am definitely willing to try it (even if all of these remedies are not covered by insurance - INFURIATING). I have an appointment with my GP next week to a) top up my emergency antibiotic stock (don't know what I would have done had I not been carrying those around in my bag) and b) discuss possibly trying D-Mannose/other options.

Thank you all once again for your input.

Isn't it time your GP referred you to a good urologist consultant/specialist?

@Chrisso - I bet it changed your life too

I will ask her to do so on Thursday.

What does that have to do with the problem?

In my previous post (no 60), I suggested that you consult a uro/gyni. I am still of the opinion such a specialist could help you with your problem.
