I am looking into the combi steamer, and I have heard very good reviews, went to the shop and everything! Just forgot to ask about the cleaning...once you have used it, do you need to dry it, or does one just leave the water in and it magically disappears?if water stays in the oven, and you don't dry it properly, would it get mouldy?
Will it make my life ( mum with 3 kids) easier? Should stick to my trusty microwave? I read the thread on ovens....but cleaning a steamer wasn't mentioned! Unless I missed it!
We use one at work. It seems to dry out OK, and it's really great for making steamed veggies...does a pretty good job on bread too...I think the extra moisture hanging around helps...
But do you have to dry it when you finished using it? I am assuming all the moisture just hangs around when you finished? I'm just thinking if I have to wipe it all down when I finished using it, then I just don't have the time! Andif you cook fish in it, and later bread.....would the water smell fishie? And one would have fishi moist bread?
we have one but i don't really even know how to use it - the kitchen is not my favourite domain! V Zug are coming in July to give me and my neighbour a lesson. I will find out about cleaning and let you know. Sophie
We have a separate V-Zug steamer and it certainly needs mopping out after use. We have a super absorbent sponge for this. Must say other than making perfect rice, we rarely use the steamer - even after the introductory lesson from Zug...
I have the V Zug Combi Steam and as mentioned, it certainly does need to be dried out after use. You can wipe it down and leave the door open so all excess water evaoprates.
In retrospect, I wish I would have gotten a microwave rather than the steamer as it is more useful for everday life with kids. Having said that though, the steamer is great for making veggies and potaties for raclette. I have also used it for slow cooking meat.
we have the combi steam and yes, you do have to wipe it dry after. I cheat though by switching the oven on 'normal' for 10 mins so that the water can evaporate and dry up.
We also have a v-zug microwave, which we use at least 3 times a day. With hindsight, wish we got the self cleaning oven and the microwave instead.
