Vaccines are really necessary

Still no idea what you’re talking about. Shouting louder doesn’t help.

Clearly a valid use of standard textual dynamics and not “shouting louder”. However, as you are case sensitve, no “bold” in this reply (shouting quietly?).

I posted the “suggestions” as possible points to discuss (this is a forum right?). Thanks for the feedback though.

Call it what you like, the point is that however much you highlight the text it gives no sort of “suggestion”, it’s just a statement with no context, needs to be put together with some more words to make a coherent sentence before we can work out what you’re trying to say.

Oh, end even if we assume evelove is a typo for evolve that sentence too makes no sense on its own.

It’s not the message that is difficult, it’s just that it’s difficult to understand what message you’re trying to get across.

(Earlier comparisons to MC were referencing the way she sometimes used to post incoherently in that sort of fashion, I think. If it’s you, then hi!).

Nah, the Chick said she was never coming back. I thought it might be someone who previously dreamed of California…

Didn’t she re-appear in the final days of EF in a rather comical attempt to glee for some unknown reason?

But that is not new, it is exactly how they handle pandemics.
In Geneva we have the Centre for Emerging Viral Diseases

That’s my assumption

I didn’t know she’d ever gone, having done so myself, largely because of her, some time earlier than that. But there’s nothing to stop her if she should so desire.

Excellent link and info. So “how they handle” , is evolving. For the better we hope .

For example…A study from your link is to analyze data in conjunction with the genetic data of the virus so as to understand the transmission mechanisms . With an aim to improve infection control practices .

Is this of any relevance whatsoever ? For this “MC” “chick” etc… I have no idea what you’re talking about

Back to the topic. Question addressed to people who’re pro-vaccines, I don’t need any clutter parallel discussion here if you decide to quote or address my post.

Does anyone here get the flu shot every year and is it effective from your pov?

I am asking because I consider doing this this year; my family and I have all caught a nasty cold these days from somewhere (probably kids from their schools) and I think I am willing to consider getting a flu shot for this autumn.

I don’t, basically because each year they make a guess about which version of flu will be prevalent next year and cook up the appropriate vaccine so there is no guarantee it will be useful depending on the actual flu version.

There are hopes of a generic MRNA flu vaccine which may persuade me to change my mind.

I do. I had a very bad flu one year and ended up in hospital so I just hope with the yearly shot the changes of getting a very bad flu are lower. So far I have not had the flu since.

I was full of good intentions to get a flu vax last year but forgot/procrastinated so much it got to March and I decided I was too late. I will try again this year.

The theory goes that new variants tend to evolve from existing ones and that very often a vaccine that’s effective against one will still give some level of protection against the new ones. So not a guaranteed 100% protection, just as we saw with Covid, but still probably worthwhile.

I don’t get them largely because it would be an effort to do so, and as a generally fit and healthy person I’m at low risk of flu developing into serious symptoms. I used to work somewhere where they went round the main sites offering free flu shots ,so I did do those a couple of times, just because it was so easy.

I’ve been getting the flu jab for a very long time. My last two employers arranged for vaccinations to be given on-site so that takes me back to 1974. I’ve continued since I retired.

I have not had flu in all that time.

Both of my employers saw the value of having as many as possible of their employees vaccinated.

I’ve had the jab a few times. I’ll probably get it this year if I remember.

I got the flu around three years ago and it was really bad for a week and that was probably the first time since childhood.
I wouldn’t want to repeat that - although COVID six weeks ago was worse and I’ve only really recovered from that in the last week.

Actually Covid vaccine was much more efficient from first vaccination and for the first 6 months, equivalent to the main flu season.

The CDC tracks seasonal flu vaccine effectiveness each year. Over the past 17 years, the highest effectiveness was in the 2010-2011 season, when it was 60% effective.2

Here are the effectiveness rates over the past six seasons for which data are available:

  • 2016–2017: 40%
  • 2017–2018: 38%
  • 2018–2019: 29%
  • 2019–2020: 39%
  • 2021-2022: 36%
  • 2022-2023: 44%

But this is the important bit, IMO:

The vaccine also reduces the likelihood of severe illness, hospitalization, and death.
