…and can vote
It wasn’t the people that voted that are the problem. It’s the people that didn’t.
I can confirm that every kid that got infected in my son’s kindergarten was not vaccinated. So I highly recommend the vaccine.
Astonishing.
That beggars belief.
They’re even suggesting the hospital could be to blame.
Not everybody who can have children should have children.
If this goes the lawsuit and trial way, the discovery process could be extremely consequential.
The parents raised concerns in their interview about the child’s hospital treatment, with the mother questioning whether more could have been done to save her. The nonprofit also shared a video on social media that questioned whether the child was given a proper antibiotic.
Antibiotics with a virus? Now that would have been real useful, not.
Blank
This case is a tragedy all round. The denial of the parents is understandable. The situation is not something that is improved by law suits. Can I sue non-vaccinated people for putting me at increased risk?
It’s not the kindest or most rational way, but it great to have a doc/immunologist as witness testifying “yes, more could be done to save her, a measles vaccine”.
I’m all for adults having a free choice for vaccines. The situation is more difficult for kids as they can’t really chose for themselves.
While the state steps in for cases of child abuse, I’m not sure whether choosing against vaccines amounts to child abuse.
It would depend on whether the pneumonia she had was bacterial or viral but I’m sure the hospital would have tested for that.
“Also, the measles are good for the body,” said the child’s father.
Absolutely correct, if you survive. I had Measles in the ‘60s and I have lifetime immunity. My GP test me for antibodies for various childhood diseases and I scored ‘good’ on each of them.
In the same way as ‘stepping out in front of a bus’ is good for the body…
It depends. At least in the US there’s a historical record of child neglect/non-neglect in relation to vaccines.
I quickly found this article. No idea what happened during covid19. Anyway:
-
1992: a court found a father guilty of child neglect for: 1) not vaccinating a child during a measles outbreak, and ii) court found religious objection to not be sincere.
-
2013: a court found a mother guilty of child neglect because of not vaccinating a child because an unpaid bill to the pediatrician. Mother self-admitted not returning to the pediatrician because lack of money to cover debt was child neglect. So, prosecution did not have to prove child neglect.
-
2013: a court for a mother non-guilty. Child was not up to date with immunizations because mother had crippling health issues. Non-guilty decision was based on mother non rejecting vaccines, only having challenges to take care of the children.
The rest are cases from 1940s and 1960s where parents were found guilty because at the time vaccines were an admission requirement for public school. Parents did not send children to school, court rules neglect.
What’s the law here? I’d assume freedom to do whatever you want when nothing happens, child neglect if there’s an ongoing outbreak and parents do nothing. I’d appreciate correcting me regarding Swiss laws
Depending on the US state, it can be considered child neglect.
In some states, attendance at school is only allowed if the child has been vaccinated so if the child does not attend school, that is considered neglect too.
Religious exemptions are permitted.
I never understand why religion seems to trump everything else - especially child welfare.
