So after nearly 6 years of faithful service, my xiomi robot vacuum's battery is dying... so now it can't finish a full clean the apartment anymore.
While I have ordered a new battery, I'm thinking of retiring him/her to the guest floor (where there are no dogs, thus less dog fur) and getting one of the shiny new ones with self-emptying capabilities.
Has anyone tried these with dog fur? (Long fur at that)
The S7 looks good - but I really don't need the mopping (have a narwal to do that... and it does a great job at it) - but at more than twice the cost of the original mi vacuum (considering the bin)....
It's not over the top - it would work out to ~100chf/year (again, assuming a 6 year lifespan); which is pretty acceptable for something that vacuums three times a day... but I want to make the decision with eyes open
Have the S7 and it does a great job with two long haired cats. The Viszla doesn't shed so cannot testify to dog hairs. The S7 is a great robot (mops well too), the cats follow it religiously.
Would love to know the answer to this... I have a great deep rug, and the aussie LOVES rolling in it... which results in the rug practically changing color
I have very dense, high knot count rugs. Not deep pile, but rather typical oriental rugs. I vacuum, then get down on my knees and brush with a brush designed for this, then vacuum again.
And a few hours later... more tumbleweeds. Shelties and collies are shedding machines. It's a Sisyphean effort.
Anything to make life a little less fur covered is worth a try...
I have an aussie and a bernese mix... I've come to terms with the simple fact that I need to spend a good portion of money on the sticky rolls for clothes, and use these daily on everything from sofas, to beds to shirts...
Somehow, the fur even goes on things that aren't in the house (e.g. the weekend car that the dogs don't go into)...
With my current, 5+ year old robot, I need to cut the fur off the roll and brushes every 2 days... anything that makes that easier, is good... so I'm going to order a S7 MaxV just as soon as I'm back from holiday
I would too... and have thrown out most rugs... This one, he loves too much.
He uses it to clean his snout after eating, to roll, to scratch his back, the sleep on, to go "hide" when he gets a bigger treat, etc... so I cannot throw it out. Instead, I vacuum daily, and once a month bring it to a car wash and pressure wash it...
It will put the hair together and leave it. I had the simillar one, red one, and removed it after few months of usage, since I always had to use normal vaccum machine after the roboter, due to leaving the hair on it.
The only solution I find which removes dog hair from carpets is a vacuum with a motorized brush. The bristles of the brush rotate and pick up the hair. This brush might not be suitable for all types of carpets.
We don't have many carpets, but I have noticed that removing dog hair from some is more challenging than others, especially some of the doormats.
