Valet tipping

A question for US guys. If you're staying at a hotel for a couple of weeks, and you pay the hotel for valet parking ($25 per day). How should you tip the valet (assuming you take and drop off the car 1 or 2 times a day)?

Do you tip every time, every day, not at all?

Every time!

I was brought up to believe, the workers in the US, lives on the tips. The basic is just that, basic.

on drop off and pick-up? or just pick-up?

and is it $1, $5 or $10?

some websites claim $10 on both drop and pick-up - but i suspect some enterprising valets are posting

It's 2 or 3 dollars whenever they bring your car to you, nothing when they take your car from you.

If you are at a fancy hotel in a big city, you can up it to 5 bucks.

That concurs with my experience, although as I'm a skinflint I'd always stick to the lower end of that scale. It's one of those areas that can be a total PITA if you haven't prepared in advance by making sure that you have some US currency[1], and that you keep a sufficient supply of 1 dollar notes specifically for these tips.

[1] I've often been on US trips of 3-4 days where I've not spent, and sometimes not even had with me, any US currency whatsoever. Credit cards do it well enough for most things.
