van hire switzerland to uk

Hi,

Does anyone know which van rental companies in the UK allow to take a large van abroad (I'm moving back to the UK from Lausanne)? I'm looking at renting a 20m3 van in the uk, drive to switzerland, load and drive back to London.

Many thanks,

Vincent

Are you bidding for the "Laziest EF poster of the week" title??

How challenging is it to try one of the major hire companies and check out their T&C?

(Avis, Hertz, Sixt, Europcar)

Hertz says "no" as far as I can tell

No need to be so agressive. Isn't it one of the ideas behing a forum, to ask people their experience, and share...I've contacted Europcar UK, they do it but for the 18m3 van, I need bigger, that's why I thought I could ask here.

You may struggle from any of the major places due to "risk" factors - particularly around the transportation of illegal immigrants. You may have to find a smaller company, or try hiring in France/Germany/Switzerland.

18m3 is Luton sized - if you need more than that you'll be struggling to find a van too.

I'm struggling to remember the place my old race-team used.

Thanks. I thought the luton with tail lift was 20m3, but I might be wrong. Thanks for advice, indeed I could try hiring in France. When we moved from France 2 yrs ago, we indeed hire a 20m3 (or alike) from France.

Thanks again.

OMG - a Smart car

Luton with tailgate = 21m3

And it can be taken to Europe

Thanks

There is always luker brothers. We've used them a couple of times. They also know the customs regulations well. http://www.lukerbros.co.uk/aboutus.html

Wow, that's great, thanks for info. 400GBP for 4 days unlimited kms...

Hello O.P.

I am in the same situation now and would like to find out what documentation did you have to complete to do self drive from CH to UK through France ?

We dont really want to give all the small stuff away and arrive with nothing in UK. Have sold the bigger stuff already.

Hello,

We ended up using a man with a van, can't remember which one. Anyway, as for the docs, we had to provide a full list of contents, but if there was anything for insurance or customs, I can't tell you, don't remember, the movers took care of that (if they ever did), sorry not to be more helpful.

good luck.

Best,

Vincent

I've used Sixt in the UK and got the biggest van they had / my licence allowed.

Their T&C say no cross-border use unless they give you permission... so you ask for permission on booking and they said yes for me: https://www.sixt.co.uk/van/
