Vet and Pet Sitter Needed in Zug

Hello, does anyone have a recommendation for a good English-speaking veterinarian in the town of Zug? We don't have a car, so wouldn't want to travel to surrounding towns if possible.

We're also looking for someone to pet sit our cats (stop by once a day for food/litter box) when we travel. Is there a local company or individual you can recommend who provides pet sitting services? Ideally it would be an insured pet sitting company or vet technician, but we'd also be open to a trusted animal-loving individual.

Thanks so much for any advice!

We've used this lady a number of times, and are cats always seem chilled out and happy when we get back from holiday.

As for vets I would recommend this clinic but unfortunately they are not in Zug so may not be of use to you, they have a number of vets that speak English.

I can heartily recommend Dr Alexander Gerold in Cham:

I have been seeing Dr Gerold for years, with my crew of 'medically interesting' mutts. He is a brilliant vet, an internal medicine specialist, highly skilled, very caring and compassionate. He values the owner/vet partnership highly, treats both the animal and owner with the utmost respect. He is accessible, always takes time to answer questions even post consultation via mail.

As far as I am concerned, Dr Gerold pretty much walks on water. The mutts think so too.

I first met Dr Gerold at the Spezialistenklinik/Ennetsee; this past June he and three colleagues opened their own practice, MyVets in Cham. His partners are Dr Yuri Beosier, surgery, Dr Alexandra Lierau, general practice, and Dr Isabel Zulauf, specialist in exotics. All are exceptionally skillful vets, all subscribe to the same ethos of care and compassion. (Dr Beosier performed a very complicated surgery on one of mine, including follow up care, and consulted on mobility issues with two others. I am so grateful for all that he did for my little guy.)

I like the ethos of the practice very much, and I trust the MyVets partners implicitly. I know that they put my dogs' best interest first and foremost.

All speak English, as well as several other languages. The practice is easily reachable by public transportation... I understand that you are looking in Zug city, but a good vet is worth traveling to. (I travel from Ausserschwyz...)

Dr Rohdewald is the expat vet of choice for everyone I know. He is based in Zug Oberwil, so not far from the town centre.

I can't really recommend him enough. I suppose the best recommendation is a story he told me. On several occasions his client's pets have escaped, only to be found waiting outside his practice!

Thank you so much Markarina, meloncollie and NickGB for your wonderful recommendations! I really appreciate you taking the time to share your vets and pet sitter, as well as your reasons why. Our kitties are basically our kids so I'm relieved to have such glowing reviews. Now if only our cats were as I excited as I am about being able to make them an appointment. Thank you again!

Swannie, the Ennetsee clinic linked by Markarina is also the 24/7 emergency clinic in the greater ZG area. No matter who you choose for your primary vet, you should also make a note of their contact details.

All the best as you and your kitties settle in.

+1 for Dr Rohdewald. He is very empathethic, takes time to listen to you the owner and is very gentle and kind to animals. He does acupuncture, which is why we went in the first place, and has a network of different specialists to send you to if he cannot cover any problem.

Even Bella likes him, or is that the Frolicks she likes?

By and large, we've been happy with Kleintierpraxis Gòˆbli for our dog, though more so since we've made a point of scheduling the appointments specifically with the lead doctor.

Very easy to get to even by foot in Zug, depending on where you live. They speak English to varying degrees, some not as proficiently as the others, but we usually use German.

meloncollie, countrybumpkin and Corbets: Thanks for your recommendations! I also appreciate you pointing out the 24/7 emergency clinic, which is now programmed into my phone. I appreciate everyone's insights!

Hi there,

I've actually just moved to the UK and am looking for similar help with vets and Pet sitters but for my dog.

I am a vet nurse in the UK and could potentially help you with day check ins if you'd like.

Hi Tish.Tosh, I got a private message from user Darcy1 who is a local pet sitter. Her rate is very reasonable, so feel free to contact her if you're still looking for a pet sitter! Best of luck as you get settled in with your dog.
