vet recommendation in Zurich

Hi everyone,

I moved recently from the US to Zurich and I am looking for a good vet. I left the best "vet of the world"!!! back in New York and now I am very anxious about finding someone here. Someone that can relate to animals and to humans and who is a very good diagnostician.

Would you have someone you could recommend?

Thank you.

Patricia

Hello and welcome!

Here's a website where if you type in your post code, it will list the vets closest to you: http://www.vet-look.ch/

As for recommendations wise, it really depends on where in Zurich you live. I used to bring my dog to Dr Buchler in Hongg. Dr Buchler is very experienced, extremely professional and a highly skilled surgeon. He did my dog's castration and removal of an extra toe with minimal scarring (in fact, I cant find any!). His details are:

Dr. med. vet. Emil Büchler

Hohenklingenstrasse 45

8049 Zürich

Tel. +41 (0) 44 341 07 07

But I've recently moved and our local vet is now:

Dr. med. vet. Lorenz Jöhr

Allmendstrasse 4

8700 Küsnacht

Tel. +41 (0) 44 912 04 04

Dr Johr also came highly recommended by a fellow EF member and I have to say, I wasnt disappointed. He speaks excellent English and when I brought my dog there for shots, he was very patient and great with my dog who is usually wary of strangers. I've not much experience otherwise with vets here in Switzerland other than shots and castration, as mine's a young dog but I am sure other members will come along with their experiences soon enough.

Anybody have a recommendation for an English-speaking vet in Adliswil? I've found a few close to me, but I don't have a phone yet, so I am doing everything by website, email, etc. We've found vets, but the online info doesn't specifiy languages/charges, etc. If there are none in Adliswil, then I would give one in Zurich proper a try, but the cats don't like being transported, and they're "vocal" about it, so I don't want to subject my fellow transit riders to the "music", so to speak...

Speaking of charges, what does a checkup visit usually run for a house cat in the Zurich area?

My daughter is a vet in Egg and she speaks perfect English (dont know if thats too far? the phone number is under vets

Andreas Hagen Dr med vet

Zürcherstrasse 1

8134 Adliswil

Tel: (044) 709-0666

Fax: (044) 709-0661

Vet and receptionist speak excellent English. 24 hour emergency service.

I have taken my dogs to him for 9 years now. Even though we now live more than 40 mins away I still take them there. He has also organised all my dogs UK passports.

Fantastic! That is actually one of the vets listed as being very close to my apartment. Do you have any knowledge of the pricing that might be helpful- I know you have dogs and I have cats?

Minimum cost for a basic check-up for both cats and dogs is 48.- CHF
