Viewing internet Serials on std. tv set

I would much appreciate if someone could give me a few tips on the

possibility of connecting my internet download (say a comedy skit from You Tube) on my standard (Sony Tritron)TV. (No HDMI pins) How to I get about this

please? Is there a Wireless mode of connection as the Internet (Computer)

is a room away from the TV set.

If you have no HDMI, then must be an old TV. There are VGA to RGB adaptors around which you could then link to a scart. But with the lack of info i.e. outputs from your laptop and TV inputs can't really help.

I suggest buying a new TV Because:

Most new TV's have network port which some allow you to view stuff on the internet, including U-Tube.

HDMI - You can link from a DVI output to HDMI (with the right adaptor)

VGA - They usually have a VGA input as well (I did wonder why they never put a DVI input, but I guess as you can use an adaptor to HDMI this does not make sense).

Otherwise, buy something like a 'WD Live TV' box, this has an internet port and supports most Video formats, including HD (when you TV and interconnects support this). Can also play direct from a USB stick/drive.

Some New TV's with internet ports also support streaming video and music, but you are better off with a dedicated device (at least for now).

Some slightly older laptops (4+ years) have an S-Video connector (a small round connector usually yellow). Your television will have an S-Video input at the front. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S-Video . Together with an S-Video cable plus a 3.5mm stereo jack to 2 RCA connectors for audio, you can get your computer onto your television.

On my TV I have SCART and on my laptop I have HDMI output. Are there cables to connect these two with good quality to watch movies?

Id dare say that HDMI and Scart are not compatible, but you can try to find an adaptor.

Go for the WDTV live , as recommended before, its about 100CHF + and you can plug a wifi dongle or LAN connection into it to watch youtube as well as other videos/music/photos from a USB memory. It's changed my life since I brought it.

These two standards are too different so not possible without a box of tricks in the middle. The opposite of what you want is here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Scart-to-HDM.../dp/B002DFHS7I . Maybe try looking around on the net.

Scart is Analogue, and HDMI is Digital

So NO won't work.

Google is your friend:

Probably better off upgrading your TV. Or buy a cheap monitor with at least DVI (some also have HDMI) DVI to HDMI adaptors are quite cheap.

In the end, you have a Digital signal and you are wanting to downgrade this to Analogue so you can watch this in the TV in worse quality?

To the OP, if your TV has HDMI I would fully recommend you get the HDTV live media box and connect it to your router. Over the last few days mine has automatically upgraded its firmware and it now supports Facebook, Deezer (internet music) and some other US video channels Flingo etc, as well as the previously supported Youtube, Flicker etc

It's becoming more and more like my home PC (albeit a lite version) on my TV, which is great when I'm lazin on the couch and just flicking around for interactive entertainment. For 100 or so CHF it's a steal, trust me.

Make a DVD? Google burn dvd from youtube

I use the WD HD Live box - http://en.toppreise.ch/prod_179968.html

This can stream over the network or from a local USB Dirve/Stick. Outputs to HDMI or analogue. Will work with an old SD TV and will be even better when you upgrade to HD as it does that as well

Whoops I meant WDTV Live HD also. We're torking about the same piece of kit.

Ahh OK. They've released two firmware upgrades this week, both seem to have issues. First one wiped my account settings and had stup problems (screen displaying multi-colour), second one has problems opening files (says not supported), after a reboot it works, but then had the same problem again last night, so had to restart then it worked.

Some DVD players (e.g. Philips DVP 5960) have a USB port in the front.

Hence my cheap basterd solution:

1. Connect DVD player (CHF 30 used on EF) with Scart cable (2 EUR in German electronic shop) to TV.

2. Download "viewing" material to USB stick on PC.

3. Insert USB stick into DVD player's USB port.

4. Enjoy.

Another el cheapo option is to move your entire living room to be in front of your computer.

I've had no problems with the upgrades, but I'll restart it anyway. Admittedly I don't use fileshares. Two firmware upgrades in one week was a little excessive I must admit. I find that Flingo channel a little useless (too US centric) but the Deezer and Faceplant app are pretty good.

I've rolled back to the older version of firmware. Do not need the add-ons with this release and they just seem to be causing me issues. There is a lot of dicussion on the WD forums about this.
