Vintage Motorbike Import

Dear all

I would like to import a Yamaha SR 125 from Germany. Those were launched from 1982-2003 with most second-hand ones being from the 90s.

However, I have been told from a retailer that legalizing these bikes in Switzerland is a pain in the ass, because in the 90s basically every country had a different legislation, so it is quite expensive to change the motorbike so that it is according Swiss laws.

Does anyone have a similar experience? Is it true that it is that difficult / expensive to import from Germany?

Best to all,

It can cost you CHF 1000 or more, yes.

I expected something like a classic Moto guzzi...

Classic bikes keep getting newer and newer, or maybe I'm getting older.

I ended up giving away an old Fazer because the price to get it registered here was more than it was worth between bits to fix and going through the process.

I've got two.

Like this:

30 years, same as always.

We have three classics, this is one:

This one is not mine, but I managed the frame-off restoration while my friend did the grunt work (his bike):

And this is one of mine that is not a classic:

Beautiful! <3

Is it only 30 years? I thought it was more.

Cars too?

Yes.

I still keep normal plates, but the taxes and insurance are much cheaper than before.

Planning to import a Velosolex (vintage around 1975 ) from USA to CH this summer. Will this be a problem.

1975 shouldn't be a problem for even cars or bikes, just 1977+.

Mopeds don't even do MFK, so no problem (unless they go too fast, which no Solex on the planet will).
