Virus and anti-spyware recommendation

Can anyone recommend good free protection?

Today i seem to have a problem with my system.i have a little yellow triangle with an exclamation mark inside on my toolbar which keeps saying Windows antivirus - Windows has detected spyware infection. Click here to protect your system.

i am reluctant to click in case it is malicioius.

any advice welcomed

Try AVG anti-virus / spyware software. I use os x but several of my paranoid gamer friends use this to protect themselves from keyloggers.

Here's a link to download the free version from cnet

Hi:

You need at least two products to protect your PC: Antivirus and Firewall.

This is what I have installed, and never had problems with virus/spyware.

1) Antivirus:

AVGFree, (as Grey said)

2) Firewall:

ZoneAlarm

Regards,

I use AVG and I've never had any trouble, I can recommend it too.

Not had a problem since I installed AVG. Everyone said at work I had to install Norton as I use my craptop at work, but I stuck with AVG and glad I have.

For virus protection, i also like AVG, but i think BitDefender is even better. Can't go wrong with either.

thanks to all. installed AVG and it found 4 trojans it has fixed.

i owe you a beer

All free and great operating together as well:

Spywareblaster Spybot search and destroy Windows Defender between these you prevent as well as clean spyware quite effectively.

For antivirus, try Avast or AVG, also free, and AVAST works on X64 bit.

antivir ( www.avira.com ) is pretty good ...... and in English too .

This site is a pretty cool, regularly updated, selective tests/reviews of the best freeware application by type...

So far I used his tips on defragmenters, firewall, antivirus, PDF editor and was not disappointed.

A lot of "review" sites seem to be thinly veiled marketing, but the guy who runs this site seems pretty kosher.

Hi all,

I'd go with Antivir since it is less intrusive and has an option for scanning while reading and/or writing files. As for the firewall protection, I only use the Windows Firewall which protects you from inbound attacks only. If you are very concerned about security you can use a free firewall product like Sygate Personal Firewall in order to be able to control both inbound and outbound tcp traffic. I wouldn't recommend ZoneAlarm or Norton... both of them are just an overkill for your system.

You could also give Spyware Terminator a try. It is real-time protection, good for virus, spyware, and hidden/unknown changes to your pcs. (Not for MAC owners)
