Visa Authorization Letter - Non EU

Hi,

I currently live in toronto and got a job offer from a swiss company in Lucerne. I got the approval from canton 2 weeks back ( after 2 weeks of submitting) and awaiting Federal Approval. I am informed that this takes from 10 days to 3 weeks. I am Indian but living in Toronto.

My employer asked me to give the details of the Indian embassy in Toronto. I am not sure why. I thought the visa authorization letter is usually sent to the swiss embassy in Canada. There is no swiss embassy in Toronto but only in Montreal. Any guesses why my employer asked the Indian embassy details ?

Swiss Federal authorities might want to check something with them?

Emmi, Schindler or Schmolz-Bickenbach?

I know, there are more international companies there in that area

Oh. I hope they dont reject me lol.

Nope. It is a small swiss company (a hedge fund). Sorry, forgot Lucerne is a city. I meant canton of Lucerne :P

After cantonal approval - rare.

Unless the find something negative from the Indian embassy.

Your employer is lazy

They should have googled it themselves

I'm not sure why they would want the address of the Indian Embassy. Even if they wrote to the embassy asking if Holbond has a criminal record, is a good/bad person or for other information, I highly doubt the Indian Embassy would even reply, or if they did, they would first consult with you. You've anyway likely had to produce a certificate of good standing showing no criminal record in order to obtain your permit.

If the Swiss Federal authority wanted to check something they would do it directly with the Indian Embassy in Canada, or through to Swiss Embassy in India, they would not go through the employer.

In any case, I would not worry about it and it won't prejudice your coming to Switzerland at all.

Thank you guys for your replies. I asked my employer and he told me they might send the permit/entry visa to collect in New Delhi and make sure that I collect somewhere in Toronto. I think he means the authorization letter. I am responsible for getting the entry visa right ?

I have given the address of Swiss consulate in Montreal ( no embassy in Toronto). I think the authorities send the authorization letter to the Swiss embassy rather to the Indian embassy ?

Sounds a bit like your employer doesn’t know how the process works. There’s no reason for them to send the visa notification to New Delhi. You applied from Toronto, that’s where you’re currently living and working so the visa notification should go to the Swiss embassy/consulate that covers your part of Canada. It’s as simple as that.

You should have already applied for the Type D visa and the embassy/consulate will notify you when they receive the authorization. You can either go there in person or send your passport to them for the visa to be stamped in it. You’ll then have a set period of time in which to enter Switzerland with the visa. Once here you then go to the cantonal migration office to start the process of getting your pre-approved permit issued to you which will take several weeks.

Yes. I think the authorization letter should be sent to Swiss embassy in Canada rather than in India. I think he was ensuring it that they dont send it to New Delhi.

I haven't got my federal approval yet. Only Canton approval. Once I get that, I thought I will apply for the D visa here in Canada.
