I have recently come to swiss, and while I came, I got some of my electronic equipment, like my favorite hand blender mixer, hair dryer etc.
I was told, that I will have to find a way to make them work in Swiss, due to the socket layout is so different from India. In the US, it is easier to find such converters, however, I have had a real tough time trying to find a converter here in Swiss.
I have been to Migros, Interdiscount and few other places (sorry, not good with Swiss names, have a lot to remember since a month)
Even to the local place in a small alley near to the Bern Bahnhof. However, I couldnt find any. I have tried to find universal adapter as well as IN->CH, but no luck.
I tried to even find it online, it cost about 9$ however, shipping charges are 129 $ so it doesn't seem to be nice convo to have while convincing my husband to get me 1
Is there any other place, one can kindly suggest. It would be really helpful.
You will find various adaptor models at the outdoor shop TRANSA. You can find them under www.transa.ch or have a look at the TRANSA shops in Basel, Bern, Lucerne, St. Gallen or Winterthur. I'm sure you will find the correct adaptor! Good luck!
the power plugs from India are fat and round (BS 546), and the earthing pin is even fatter than the live and neutral pins... the universal adapters available, usually cater to UK (BS 1363) pin style, i.e. the flat ones... as far as my experience goes, it was easier to find the adapters back home before flying out, rather than here... here the only place I found the adapters for the Indian plug were at the airport travel accessory shops, and as expected they did cost almost 60-90€... a similar thing in India would cost lesser than 20€...
You buy Swiss plugs from a shop in Switzerland. You cut off your Indian plugs you bought in India. You wire the Swiss plug onto the equipment cable, the middle pin is the earth connection.
Been one of those days... Don't know why, but calling this country 'Swiss' bugs the hell out of me (silly really). Also the OPed the correct term in the title!
Shall do my best to take ten beers after work - oh, ten deep breaths? OK that'll probaly help too, and I can do that now.
Back to the thread, and we replaced half a dozen euro plugs with Swiss ones, and bought a few adapters for stuff that we did not want to change permanently (6-9 CHF at Media Markyt, seemed to have adaptors for all regions/countries).
