Washing machine 9 hour cycle!

In ikea the other day we saw a washing machine for sale. Thing is the shortest wash was 3 hours and the longest 9 hours!!

What does anyone have that needs washing for 9 hours? I had to look at it a few times plus get the wife to check i understood it correctly, yep 9 hours!

Oh if anyone is interested they are available in white or black for around 700chf

How long was the spin cycle? I am a lazy bugger, it might improve my sex life.

The only thing I can imagine is if it is some cycle involving pre-soak and mid-wash-soak type thing... some people have to do really really dirty jobs, their clothes need to come clean somehow!

Even if they do the most dirty things you can think of even the shortest wash was still 3 hours long!

You can get a flight to the US in a shorter time than it takes the longes wash

I have to admit the first time I used our washing machine here I thought it was broken. It just kept spinning over hours and hours. Back home the damn thing would be finished in 30 minutes. Mind you, the machine here is ridiculous quiet whereas mine back home would make you think that there was an earthquake going on.

Doing a quick google search for "9 hr wash cycle" I get plenty of hits about machines with a 9 hr DELAY wash cycle - perhaps this is what you saw?

There are a number of hits with different time options for delays, one of them is for 3 / 6 / 9 hr delays. I can only guess that some folks maybe find it convenient to hit a delay option like that so the finish coincides with a return home from somewhere, that way they don't have to worry (as much) about a major issue if things go wrong if the machine is running while they're out.

Is it a silent 9 hours so you set if off when you retire for the night and it triggles along, slowly and silently, then it's done in the morning before heading out to work?

Thats what we thought at first but its not a delay. Fust sell the same thing

But who cares if your clothing is totally washed 5 hours before you get home or 10 minutes? When you come home, either way your clothing will be washed.

Because ideally you want to remove the washing from the machine as soon as the spin has completed (otherwise the stuff stays there getting creased).

Alternative is to use the delay-spin option many machines have, whereby they do the wash and then wait for a button press before draining and spinning.

I've not ironed anything in many years; I take shirts out to hang immediately after a slow spin. If I miss it, then hanging them in the bathroom during a steamy shower also sorts them out.

True enough, for those fond of ironing, am sure it makes little difference . . . . but . . . . . . some people are not so keen on the ironing thing and may not actually own an iron (or even an ironing board, can you imagine!) So in these cases, people might want to get the clothes out ASAP so they can give them a good shake, hang them out and bobs your uncle.
