Washing machine keys

Hi there,

Ive not long moved in to an apartment and been given a little key for the communal washing room to power the machines. Apparently I need to charge this - does anyone know where and how much it costs?

Thanks in advance, Jon.

Here, our Hauswartin (housekeeper) charges our card, costs 30chf's, though it varies, in our last flat it cost 20chf's.

I've been told I have to do it myself - do you know how many units 30CHF is? or how long does it last?

I had one that looked like a credit card size. The House woman charged it. Was only there a short time, so no idea of the price of a normal wash (A bit of a rip off story, not normal for Switzerland).

Another place had a regular (Honesty) box to put the money it, the price was displayed the wall for the prices, heat of wash & time in dryer, wash & dry between 1 to 3 chuffs.

Now have a different style key that gets charged to individual Electric bill, have noted cheaper electricity evenings, Saturday afternoon & all day Sunday, but do not tend to wash on a Sunday unless urgent. Have no idea if the credit card ones have any different for the time of day, I suppose not.

thanks for the replies,

does no one else have one of these keys they charge themselves? looks like the end of one of those computer VGA cables that plugs into a machine above the washing machine.

Perhaps you could post a picture? - of the card and the machine it plugs into?

I used to have one that sounds similar to this - it slotted into a plain metal box above the machine and meant that the charges for the machine went directly to my electricity meter (so no need to charge it)
