Watch-phone for a child instead of mobile?

Does anyone use these e.g. tcl movetime from Swisscom, xplora, or the Garett Kids plus a sim as a pre-cursor to giving them their own mobile? Are they accepted in your children's school or on overnight class trips, Skilager etc?

We were happy with the Xplora but since several weeks, the GPS doesn't work. In my daughter's school and hort, they are not allowed to wear the watch so she has in the school bag.

We have the TCL and think it's a great product. It's unlikely that it would be used in an emergency, but it puts our minds at rest. A lot of kids at my daughter's school have it and the school has no issue with them.

We have the Swisscom TCL for our kid. It’s relatively inexpensive. The camera is crap, but she likes it. The text messages don’t work well, but the tracker is good, she can call or answer easily, and roughly half her class have the same one, so no fancy iPhones are wanted, as they can connect easily with TCL.

The charge lasts about a day and a half.

Once in France (we live on the border) it went nuts and we couldn’t get it to turn off. Other than that, it’s fine. Would buy again.

Oh, and no problem with her school in Vaud.

Recently bought xplora for junior. Works very well once you've managed the slightly fiddly set-up of the watch and the parental app.

I bought the watch, then installed a UK sim-card from BT, which still allows EU and CH roaming.

School regulations are communale and not cantonal, what is allowed in one school may not be allowed in another, they are only guided by the canton.

Several schools that I know of through colleagues and friends treat smartwatches like mobile phones - so whatever the rule is for phones in your kid's school will probably apply to the watch as well.
