I can't seem to find how to place an enquiry with ricardo.ch.
It may be that I'm not navigating the site well in German, but I can't find any actual contact details or mechanism. Under "Hilfe & Kontakt" is just a dead-end FAQ search with no contact info.
I tried replying to "ricardo.ch" , which was the From address of a relevant email from ricardo, but have not got a response after 20 days.Jumping to the start of the purchase attempt, when I first committed to buy, I got an email (Dec 12) "herzlichen Glückwunsch!" from ricardo.ch, with a Reply-To of (presumably) the vendor's email address.
This email contained some info, like the quantity and unit cost and transport costs. It did not say the total payable amount, though one could calculate this from the other info. And it did not contain any payment details. It mentioned some drivel about "UBS Paymit" and that was it.
So I replied to the vendor (Dec 13) to ask for the payment info, and confirm the total. No reply. Chased Jan 5. No reply.
On Jan 27 I get a "Rückerstattungsantrag" (reimbursement or cancellation request, I think) from ricardo. I'm busy and on Feb 2 get a reminder. By Feb 15, when I can do something about it, the opportunity to use their web site's mechanism has closed (7 day deadline - fair enough). I try emailing, as per start of this post.
But at the URL they gave me for responding, instead of saying I didn't reply in time, it says "Sie haben für diesen Rückerstattungsantrag bereits eine Antwort gegeben", roughly that I've already responded. This is incorrect.
Is my experience unusual here, or is the whole thing a shitfest?

You may have missed the part of my original post where I said:
I don't think you're supposed to call or even contact them. That would require effort on their part.
If the issue is serious enough, go through a lawyer or the police - otherwise, just forget it. Ricardo is not a traditional business.
Also, it looks like you didn't pay yet. So there's no financial damage, other than wasted time?
You can also try and go to their office. I bet they love walk-ins ;-)
Of course, they won't let you in, but you can arrive at half past noon and claim to deliver a pizza ;-)
Ricardo are fine when there is no problem, [you simply need to ask something] or a small problem to be solved.
If there is a major difficulty, they simply do not want to know, or they ask you to sort it out between yourself and the seller. They limit themselves to helping only with small problems.
We had an instance many years ago when a vendor tried to sell us a carpet which was completely bleached by the sun in its middle. Backwards and forwards to Ricardo, who reiterated many times that the problem has to be sorted out by the parties concerned. Ricardo are super, but have limitations.
Why wouldn't they let you in?
OP - sounds like your problem is with the vendor and not ricardo.
ricardo do not own the goods being sold. Paymit is a valid payment option, so not sure why you would consider it "drivel".
I would say that yes, your experience is unusual here. I've bought and sold many things on ricardo without an issue.

I can ask. They're downstairs in my apartment building for the last six years.
Honestly, though, they'd probably be suspicious of the pizza thing - they each seem to spend so much money on ciggies, I doubt they can afford delivery pizza....
Usually, when there's no phone number, they really don't want to see or hear from you other than the canned texts in the contact form.
Because no appointment? Many businesses will not see people on a drop-in basis.
No, Ricardo's role, as the marketplace operator, is to correctly record that the sale fell through due to the vendor. This isn't currently the case. I am not even able to leave negative feedback. These are the kinds of things I need to contact Ricardo about.
It is not a dichotomy. I have a problem with the vendor - and I need to contact Ricardo.
Duh.
Okay haha LOL farm.
The point is that the message didn't contain sufficient info to make a conventional bank payment.
