A ' WC ' in German is actually a 'Wasserklosett' so the signs if correct would read 'WK' . Strange eh?
I do wonder what (public) toilets used to be signed as here before WC...

Think about that for a second!
Hmmm, from WC to nose picking..., that happened quickly! I once read something about flushing your nose, though. I think it is called a Neti. But that is something completely different again.
So in answer to the original question, there was nothing before the WC, except perhaps a bucket and window.
On a contemorary note, one will still hear references nowadays to the "Klo" or the "Chlo" in German and SG respectively... tho' not of course in polite conversation (rather like nose-picking)
Es stinkt aus den Aborten - es wird Frühling allerorten! (It stinks in the WC, it will be spring everywhere)
As in: "Excuse me, where's the bathroom?"
Me: "Erm!?! Why?"
US: "Well I would like to go to the bathroom?"
Me: "But, we've only invited you over for dinner... *click* oh, you mean toilet..."
"Während des Aufenthalts auf den Bahnhöfen, ist die Benutzung des Abortes NICHT gestattet"
(reciting from memory, grammar/orthography may be incorrect)
Deodorant
Shampoo (+ comb)
Shower gel
Shaving soap (+ razor + shaving brush)
Is there anything else that a man should have/need? Anything else, IMO is just surplus to requirements and bordering on (if not well passed) pretentious crap.
I should have added:
Moisturiser? (I get dry skin occasionally)
If you get dry skin, you can (sort of) claim a medical need, so I'll let you off...
