Website design program

Hi fellow computer geeks,

I was thinking about spicing up my website and using something other than "notepad" this time. Can any of you recommend a good program or online site for designing a website? Also let me know if it is free or costs money. Thank you!

LG Jennifer

How about switching to Wordpress - there are lots of designs to choose from and customise, or you can put your own on. Loads of useful plugins too. Completely free, all you need to do is install and host it.

I am old school too and use PS Pad as my editor but I have the costly Dreamweaver standing by too. There's nothing like the personal touch.

I used HotDog after graduating from Notepad.

Dreamweaver from Adobe is the luxury option I use. But there are lots of free tools, try Google "Free HTML editor".

I would not recommend Wordpress unless you want to create a blog or know exactly why you are using a blog software for your website.

I didn't know that HotDog is still around . Nice. Did they ever update it to support current standards (XHTML for example)?

From the OP's post, I am guessing that they know how to write code - if you know this you can easily create fully featured websites with Wordpress - we run hundreds this way - it is a fallacy to think of Wordpress as blogging only - with version 3 they are moving more and more towards web sites.

If you have a Mac, I thoroughly recommend Rapidweaver. and TacoHTML Editor.

EditPlus is a very good software as well and the price is very good imo.

There is also KompoZer which is the continuation of Mozilla Composer and Nvu.

Thanks a lot for all of your suggestions guys. I'll take a look at a few of them and see which one I prefer. I was afraid I would have to download a cracked copy of Microsoft Frontpage *shudder*

I use wordpress for my site. Very easy to use, can easily manualy do the code, but wordpress has some annoying bugs (all of which so far I have found soloutions to online).

I used Artisteer 2 to design my own template.

Dreamweaver is ace but is the best part of 400GBP (not looked up swiss price).
