Im planing to study international relations in webster university in geneva next year, anyone knows about this uni???I want to know the reputation of it, and how is it like

thanks

Hi Nico!

I'm planning to study in Geneva also, but still not sure in which Uni...

I heard a lot positive things about Webster. I just don't like that it has a fully American educational system and prices of course..

A useful thing you could do is to use Facebook to find some students from Webster and ask their opinion directly. I used to do so and I found out a lot of interesting information!

Good luck!

Depends what you want to know. Academically, it is far from Harvard, but in Geneva there is not much else if you want to study in English.

I am attending this university in August 2009. I first really didn't think it would be worth the money, but if you are dedicated to succeed this school is can get you places.

I think that it is what you make it. If you decide to slack off and party every weekend you really won't get anywhere. But if you take advantage of the internships and other opportunities the school has to offer you will go places.

I will also major in international relations; just stop and think for a second. You are in Geneva, possibly the BEST place to study International Relations because the UN is here and many other NGO'S and world organizations, opportunities that Harvard Students don't have the luxury of utilizing.

That's just my personal opinion though. Sorry if it sounds a little harsh. You can contact me anytime. Just PM me on these forums!

Good Luck!

Just to echo the other comments, it's ultimately what you make of it. If you put work into your studies, you'll get something out of the program. I know they have a decent career services office that can help you get an internship with an NGO - a definite plus when studying international relations.

So I realize this Thread is a few years old, so by this time I'm sure you have all formed your opinions on this University. I'm and American student looking to study International Relations. I was accepted to Webster as well as Franklin College in Lugano. What are your opinions on Webster based on your experiences?? What are the students like? Nightlife? Classes? etc.? Sorry for all of the questions, but I need advice!!!!!

Much Appreciated!

Perhaps a wee introduction in the "Introductions" section might be an apposite step... Just a thought

As an American I moved to Geneva in 1998 and did my BA at the University of Geneva. I knew a few people from Webster and they were all really nice. I appreciated the internationalism of that and other schools like it because the culture shock in a Swiss university is HUGE.

Its not like the USA where everyone moves to a campus and makes friends. Most people in the public system have been here their entire lives and their friends are from primary school, so they don't see much the point to mingle.

Nightlife can be difficult too. A lot of places are catering to the very well paid diplomat and ex pat crew, so the good places take some time to find. Funny enough, the Ethno bar is one of the best bars in Geneva and it is on the ground floor of the Webster Housing building in the city, so that is a plus.

I have never been to Lugano so maybe someone else can handle that issue. Bottom line though, if you come to Geneva, stay in the international schools because at least there you will make friends and get to go out.

Hope that helps!
