Wedding gift registry (Hochzeitsliste)

I'm in need of some help. I am getting married in Switzerland in August. About half of our guests are coming from Switzerland/Germany/Austria and the other half from the U.S. I currently live just over the border in Austria, but my fiancee is Swiss.

I am having trouble finding a place to register for wedding gifts in Switzerland or Austria that also has an English option on their website for our American guests. I would like a place with on online registry so guests can just shop online. I have tried amazon.com and amazon.de. The problem with amazon.com is that many items are not available to be shipped out of the US and if they can be shipped, the shipping fee is often more than the actual item. The problem with amazon.de is that there is no English option. Even if we were able to send out a link directly to our gift registry, people who don't speak any German will have a hard time navigating the site to pay and check out.

I have checked Globus and while they do have wedding registry available, it doesn't appear to be on the English version of their site.

Does anyone have experience with this or have a recommendation? I know it is common to just give money as gifts here, but I would really like to set up a registry for people who would prefer to buy gifts.

Any advice is welcome. Thank you!

You want something more sophisticated than just a list like: www.hochzeitswunschliste.ch or www.wunschalbum.com

I have found www.firstlist.ch which is in English and German and linked with many on line shops.

Thanks for the information!

There are a ton of websites that will let you compile your own wedding registry with things from different sites...just Google 'build your own registry'.

You could also build a US registry and have things sent to a friend's or relative's address, and they could then ship everything over to you at once. I think (not 100% sure though) that you don't have to pay import duty on wedding gifts, as there's a special trousseau clause.

Also, you might want to let people know that most US gift cards, even for global companies like Amazon, Ikea, etc., won't work here.

You mach check out www.wunschidee.com where, where you can create a wedding list for free. It's kind of a doodle approach and available in English and German.

We used www.firstlist.ch last year.

They were very friendly, helpful and speak English, French and German, so very practical for us and our friends. + we could submit other wishes that the articles on catalogue.

We married in Holland last year. Our friends and family are coming from different places and countries, and we wanted to avoid having them flying over with a fragile present, and more than that we wanted to avoid having our presents in another place than where we live...

I can only recommend it, because I have friends who opened a registry in their country of origin and they had to pay 8 % on the value of ALL their presents + ask their friends for original invoices (hummm) in order to get their presents over the border !!! The swiss are not soooooo easy.....

Wish you good luckm:-)

oups... just realized your post was from 2011... well hopefully it can help someone else !!

We have experienced their gift registry in my sister's wedding, and have a safe secure and easily accessible registry. Saved our time as well as cost. The best thing about their registry is that they provide services globally so no need to worry about shipping. Check their site once hope you also find it better than others.
