Weed in Grass - Hirsen

Does anyone know what Hirse is in English? Its taking over my lawn and I don't know what to do to get rid of it.... any advice ??

"Minor" millets

I know the direct translation, I was hoping to find out the 'local' name..

is it maybe Crowsfoot ?? it doesn't look like 'common millet' .....

Then why did you ask for something you already knew..?

And how are we supposed to know which exact plant it is if you give zero info?

Local where? As Hirse would be local here?

addition; There is something called Hühnerhirse . In English that would be cockspur grass.

Maybe someone blew the husks from their budgerigars millet over the grass and a load of the seeds flew out too.

My imagination is running wild with all the facts we have been given here.

This should be in the gardening thread where the experts hang out.

Okay, I apologise for the lack of 'facts' but all I can tell you is that I had a 'gardener' around and he charged me a stupid amt of money to spray 'hirsen'

Yes that is IT..

everyone I spoke to said it was Hirsen but when I googled that and millet the pictures were not what was growing in the lawn... however I have now googled this 'chicken millet' and I'm not sure anyone in the UK will know what that is either...

I've had a gardener who sprayed the lawn - it did nothing, I've spend HOURS pulling the buggers out by the roots and throwing grass seeds down so there isn't room for the weeds to grow.. but its not working...

I have a few relatives who are keen gardeners but they can't help me based on my descriptions... I will not send them piccies of hühnerhirse and see what they say.

LOL, you must be upset

Put a picture on here? Ask the knitters if you don't know how to.

The best way to get rid of any weeds, and which also kills off thick nettles and tree stumps, is to decant weedkiller into a jam jar and paint it directly onto the weed with a 1 inch paint brush, the kind you would use for painting door frames, etc. It's more labour intensive than spraying, but less so than weeding, and it carries the poison down to the network of roots.

Just sit on the grass and do a patch at a time. When I've used this method, I've found that I only needed to treat half the lawn, leave it a couple of weeks, and it's killed all the weeds off via the root system.

p.s. I took this idea from my gardening guru, Greg the Gardener and it's worked every time for me.

I don't spray because of the pets.

I recently read an interesting article in the local paper about a non toxic solution for dealing with weeds.

The firm is located in Fislisbach, AG.

There is a video you can watch.

Sorry folks, the link is only in German.

How about a photo, we could be of more help if we knew exactly what it is. Hirse is a tough weed, the seeds can lay dormant up to 20 years.

If you want a great lawn, your only option is to regularly remove all weeds by the roots.

I use this nifty tool, its used to remove moss from the tiles.

The other invasive weed which is difficult to get rid of is Bermuda grass. Unlike the Hirse which I was able to get rid of by pulling out at the roots, this Bermuda grass is impossible to pull out.

If you live near open fields and agricultural land you will have a tough time battling weeds.

Some people believe if you have a robot mower you will have very few weeds as the grass is dense and is cut everyday.
