Just for starters, there’s complete silence in local media. It’s like the SERAFE fee goes directly to trash. So, updates via the WSJ.
Then, it’s bit curious that the issue seems to be wokeness when presumably the trend these days is woke is out. Also, it seems nepotism is mandatory in these stories.
Personally, this story is a bit sad. It perpetuates the myth that people with a migration background have a huge void to fill. All those unfulfilled needs. Maybe mom and dad should have given a couple more hugs or told “I love you” at least once, that villa or another medal are not going to fill the black hole:
…other alleged governance failures, including the Forum’s lavish spending on a luxury property called Villa Mundi, a project overseen by Hilde Schwab.
After the Forum in 2018 spent about $30 million on the mansion next to its headquarters overlooking Lake Geneva, it launched into a roughly $20 million renovation. Hilde steered the project. She also maintained control over how Forum employees could use Villa Mundi, and when—limiting access to an entire floor employees were told was for the Schwabs’ exclusive use, according to the whistleblower letter and a person familiar with the situation.
The whistleblower letter also alleged that Schwab had misused Forum resources and staff in a personal quest to get nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. “This was not a WEF initiative but a self-driven effort disguised as organizational work,” the letter states.
What will happen in the future? What will activists complain about? What will happen to Davos real estate prices?
No, I think you are projecting your beliefs onto the situation. It has nothing to do with migration backgrounds, all to do with the dangers of when individuals, be they business people or politicians, have too much wealth and power. The WEF is a mixed blessing for Switzerland, this story will run here, just slowly… The Woke bit is just the weapon being used, like the IRS going after gangsters in the USA. Maybe it is not good tactics at the moment. As for woke being out … wait and see, crazy wokeness might be going, sanity might be returning to women’s sports (the FAs regulations to ban the approx 20 active trans soccer players in the UK seems a little heavy handed), but the woke issues do not go away. Racism and prejudice against minorities in particular remain. The backlash against the backlash has just started.
I really don’t understand the context for the terms ‘woke’, ‘wokeness’, ‘and migrant backgrounds’, when more straightforward terms like ‘corruption’ , ‘embezzlement’, and ‘misappropriation of funds’ explain it better
It takes many years to get rid of the toxic woke, the ideology is deeply entrenced by now. As demonstrated by the WSJ’s reporting on an anonymous letter.
What used to be called anonymous smears is now heralded as activism.
What does this have to do with either “woke” or “press freedom”? There is an accusation of him mingling personal and the organization’s finances, an audit committee understandably wants to investigate and he threatens a lawsuit. The WSJ - cradle of wokeness and activism - reports critically on it.
Hmm…, people who would prefer to live in the past and impose their believes and opinions on others.
I think that could easily mean religious types who believe in God and take the words in holy books literally ( or interpreted in their own self-serving ways).
Allow me to disagree there… most of the woke people that I know, are pretty agnostic (or atheists), and most of the religious people (and I know a good bunch of them) are definitely against this wokism… I believe this is more a social than a religious belief movement
It is interesting, that SNL picked up on that trend (in a very mild manner) years ahead before it turn into, well, you know… Levi’s Wokes - SNL
On this, I disagree. There are clearly elements of the “woke elite” who love to lecture others and want to impose their opinions. They claim to be progressive, but are just as authoritarian as the religious extremists.
