I always thought Virago is a really weird name for a bike. I don ́t know who made it but I distictly remember the name, being that it means a really manly woman.
That's a bit mean -- a virago is a woman who exhibits heroic qualities which historically were associated more with men. But yes, it has a pejorative meaning as well.
The Virago is Yamaha's fault, again. It is a bit of a girlie bike, though.
The Suzuki Hayabusa (GSX1300R) doesn't have a weird name (apart from being difficult to pronounce or spell for non-Japanese-speakers), but its name (meaning peregrine falcon) is very clever. It's the fastest production motorcycle of the 20th century and perhaps to date, following speed limitations voluntarily imposed (through a gentlemen's agreement) on subsequent models, with a top speed in excess of 300 km/h -- which is the speed attained by peregrine falcons in their hunting dives. The clever part is that peregrine falcons prey on blackbirds, and the Hayabusa was designed and built to knock Honda's Super Blackbird (CBR1100XX) off its perch as the world's fastest production motorcycle.
