Weird spikes on Chicken's anus

Is this normal?

Safe to eat?

Here's a photo...

That's the tail, not the anus.

Those are feathers, not spikes. Remove them.

Tom

I'm not much of a one for anuses anyway...

That must win the prize for strangest thread title ever.

On the upper aide of this part there is some fatty pocket under the akin which should be removed as well if you're about to cook it.

It's a Swiss female chicken and those spiky bits are chicken pubic hair. (don't listen to whatever anybody else tries to tell you).

As you can see not all Swiss chickens are properly shaved.

The normal procedure if you get one in your mouth is to discreetly spit it out and carry on eating

Thanks for the replies! I called a chef friend just after who identified the feathersband now I feel slightly embarrassed!! Hehehe! Bon ap!

Yeah word on the street is that Swiss chicks like it "au naturel" down there...

I am not speaking of personal experience of course.

Interesting reflection on today's world.

When I was young the only possibility was to buy fully feathered chickens and pluck the damn things yourself; which I never want to do again!

I guess most modern youth would not drink milk or eat eggs if they knew exactly where they came from.

Never swallow

The part you are referring to is actually called "The Parson's Nose" why- I have no idea..

LOL Sapin- you did make me laugh- made my day that

Interesting question; it seems the phrase has been around since 1400 AD.

In northern Africa, it's the Sultan's Nose so "nose" must somehow be important?

Hmmm... a protuberance located above an orifice from which effluence pours... I wonder how that came to be associated with parsons, popes and sultans...?

Pfft. Use the search function!

You sure it`s not called "The MR/Mrs Parson`s Nose"

Introducing mirfield...a mod so dedicated he Googles anything in order to help the EF membership. I wonder what the big G thinks when they run analytics on your searches, mirf.

I guess if we get enough people, we can get that suggestion as people start their search with "spi" - that'll cheer up arachnophobes and annoy Spice Girls fans.

Hahahahahahahaha
