Well that was annoying and a waste of money

A few weeks ago I asked about changing trains at Renens for my brother who would be landing in Geneva to come and visit us. All was sorted.. we got him two Day Tickets so he come travel on any train from and back to Geneva. His room was ready, I had things planned. Yesterday he sent us some SMSs and photos, he’s at Faro airport (Portugal). Although a large number of flights had been cancelled because of a strike, his was still shown on the board as being ready to go. … he’s in the duty free and bought some chocolates .. he’s in the departure lounge and his flight has been called… he can see the plane - then the bummer. A member of staff came in and said sorry, your flight has just been cancelled as well. To make things worse, when he was leaving the departure area to go back home, the customs demanded ££ duty on the stuff he’d bought at the duty-free because he was “importing” it !
Anyway, the money we spent for him for the two 1-Day passes is lost because a) they were in his name, date of birth etc. and b) the refund period (since date of purchase) has passed…

That’s a shame.

As bowlie mentioned, most credit cards has some coverage for this kind of events.

Yeah. I just had to reorganise a ton of stuff and pay because my parents got AM and PM confused for their flight…

Ah, but the airlines use the 24h clock. Well except in the US that is.

I’m pretty sure his parents aren’t airlines.

The tickets were two of the ones which you can get via your place of work. My daughter bought them from her office, she has already asked about a refund, even for the one for next Monday, but she was told they are non-refundable because they have his name etc. on them. Ah well… We’re waiting to see whether he wants to try again with another flight but those Portugese transport and aviation workers have been going on strike willy-nilly with no warning whatsoever for a while.
