I am interested in knowing local name of people in different cantons of Swiss. Like, how would you guys called yourself to know that you are from a specific canton?
Hi guys
basel -> bebbi
does that actually go for both basel stadt and land?
People outside of Zurich refer to a group of people from Zurich as a "Wunch"
I'm a Gummeli Schwyzer.
People from Zürich are called Zürchers while rolling the eyes. Having a Zürischnore is not a compliment.
Dzodzés for the fribourgeois
"Genevois, de Dieuuuu"! Anyone on the other side of the Röstigrabe is called a "Bourbine" and I understand anyone our side of the "border" is referred to by the Swiss-Germans as "die Welschen" (The Welsh??)
An Appenzeller is a Dibi-däbi.
Zucchini for Swiss-Germans, Crucchi for Germans, Giapponese for police.
Tom
In the canton of Bern, anyone who has a first name 'Ernst' automatically has a nickname of 'Aschi' (so I was told).
It has always amazed us that a man with the lovely name of Christian is called Chrigi, or in Wallis, Chrigu
In the Sense in Fribourg, too.
Here a list:
For Wallisser, anyone not a Walisser: Üsserschwizer, or Grüezini if it is a Swiss German.
People from the Large Canton: Schwabä, Gummihälse
Graubünder: Murmelifigger.
Graubünder for anyone not from the Mountainregion: Unterländler.
Schwyzer: SäuliZüchter.
Zürcher: Arschlöcher.
I've heard Bündners referred to as Alpaffen or Bergaffen, is that common?
Also, I'm not sure tif there is a specific nickname for them, but the Bernese are universally perceived to be slow and stupid .
@Paddy, never heard those. One used is Stäibock-Tschingg. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tschingg
Sometimes Berner are called Giele (p) Giu (s.) (Bernese/ Mattenenglisch for guy)
Admittedly, it was on a hockey forum .
They usually call me Salope. But in a nice, friendly way. Only people that have known me a long time have that priviledge. I won't repeat what i call them back.
