And let's not forget the shops at petrol stations. The Avia-shop on Mythenquai in Wollishofen is a Spar-outlet with even fairly nice prices and a good choice. The BP shop on the Mytenquai beside Wollishofen-Bhf is a good shop, except that the wines are a bit expensive. The ESSO/Socar station in Glattbrugg has a really nice shop. I just hope that Socar will continue the good work.
So that you in fact can do quite a lot of shopping on Sundays
Tom
And people move stuff between Keller and apartment and "attica" also on Sunday and nobody complains
Vacuuming ? Not in a big way, but for five minutes here, and half an hour later for seven minutes there, etc, is well tolerated
thankfully there are a few stores and a nice market here for emergencies, but i do like the excuse for non shopping and time spent together hiking, cooking or other stuff... i must admit i was overwhelmed the last visit back to nyc because we didn't have that time to just relax and spend time do nothing (or hiking or whatever) without the temptation to get things done.
i find once i got used to the organization of it all (not my strong point, getting better), sundays became my favorite days.

"it is a nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization for people age 50 and over"
Scary!
Tom
Sunday is my favourite day of the week. No shops are open and it is possible to chill. It is day when no one wants anything from you and you can relax. The only downside is that come Sunday evening you start thinking that you have to go back to work the next day I live the fact that there is one day when you can get up late and not have to do things...unless you want to. Why do people want to be doing something everyday...when do you chill out and relax ?
Have fun
Martin
Wet, miserable Sundays are usually about slow-cooked food, books, tv/movies and writing my blog (which I haven't done for ages, as it hasn't been wet or miserable!).
When it's fine, it's about getting out in the fresh air and enjoying autumn, my favourite season. In fact, tomorrow I'm heading to Lavaux, to see the famous UNESCO-listed vines in their glorious autumn colours. It's also a great chance to see other parts of Switzerland.
There's loads of things to do, when you put your mind to it....
just lack of respect... and quite normal!
sundays here... i stand behind the net curtains with a notebook and monitor my neighbours activities so i can complain about them and leave unsigned notes that are doing x y z on a sunday and its Verboten ! and next time i will call the police.
Switzerland's pretty bad on Sunday's. Bedtime 24 hours that day. It's improving though - much quieter when I moved here in 2006.
I don't know about Basel, but in Zürich, the rail-stations Zch-HB, Zch-Enge and Zch-Stadelhofen have shopping areas open on Sunday, and Zch-Oerlikon will follow in 2014. I cannot tell about all the other rail-stations, as to develop a Sunday-open-shopping-zone is not so very difficult really. IF
the buildings are there
& the space is there
I might imagine something to go ahead at the rail-stations of Schaffhausen and Lugano, but last time I was in each place, nothing real was around.
