What do you think will the price of an ounce of Gold be on 2029-01-21?

Why not put the S&P500 v Gold, then you would realise that you should avoid gold as a long term investment.

It applies to cryptocurrencies as well

End of Q2 2025, time for recap.

  • When rainer_d opened the thread, the ounce was around 2’840 USD.
  • It went up like crazy to reach a max of 3’428 USD, thanks Prez Trump.
  • Not much since then, 3’340…zzzzzzz…zzzzz

Current price is around the average of the votes of AbFab, thedude, AmbientLight and PhilMCR. Will it climb more or deflate?

UBS says $3,700 in 2026

By the current rate, it could reach 3700 next month.

I’ve read that most imports stockpiled before the tariffs will have run out in October and that will be when the shit hits the fan, when the tariffs will actually be priced in into…everything.

Not sure if a 1/2 basis-point rate cut will be of any use there…

But Trump’s tariffs will not apply to gold bullion* exports from Switzerland to the US as of September 2025. Although there was initial confusion and a brief period where US Customs stated that Swiss gold bars (specifically one-kilo and 100-ounce bars) would be subject to the 39% tariff, President Trump announced an explicit exemption for gold bullion, clarifying the policy and ending market uncertainty.

*Bullion only, gold in other forms are subject to the 39% tariff.

It’s quite odd that the talk about tariffs is on gold only. The same problem arises with silver, platin, and probably a few others.

Have you seen the oval gilt office?

Because gold is the single most exported item from Switzerland that the US imports.

According to this website:

70% of the world’s gold is refined in Switzerland. Last year, it was so much that it completely blew up the trade deficit between US and CH.

The other thing is pharmaceutical products - but they aren’t even produced here.

The gold isn’t mined here. Meaning it shouldn’t be considered as contributing to Switzerland’s deficit with the US.

But it’s processed. For which Valcambi et.al. probably charge a small fee…

Well the US disagrees.

The place of origin for US tariffs is determined by the product’s “Country of Origin,” which is a central factor in how tariffs apply. The United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) administers the determination of the country of origin with reference to regulations, prior interpretations, and court decisions. Generally, the country of origin is:

  • Where the products are wholly obtained, meaning grown, produced, or manufactured in a particular country
  • Where the products undergo a substantial transformation, which applies to products made from materials sourced in multiple countries. The substantial transformation is the process that results in a new and distinct article of commerce, different in name, character, or use from the original materials.

The tariffs applied depend on this origin and whether there is any preferential trade agreement such as a Free Trade Agreement (FTA). If no preferential agreement exists, the Non-Preferential Country of Origin (NPCO) determines which country’s tariff rate applies. For example, goods shipped from one country could still be considered to originate in another country if minimal processing was done in the shipping country but key components came from another country.

Misdeclaration or incorrect claims of country of origin can lead to penalties and higher tariffs, with increased scrutiny from US CBP.

Thus, the place of origin for US tariffs is based on the determined country of origin of the product by US Customs, which takes into account production location and substantial transformation criteria.[1][2]

And?
The other precious metals (should) get tariffed now as well. Perhaps not with 39% but IIRC no country is at less than 10 or 15% now.

Did anyone say other precious metals were not subject to US tariffs? I mentioned specifically gold bullion. For that President Midas is waiving the 39% tariff.

Cool stawman, bro.

?? I don’t understand.

First of all my #69 and #75 aren’t in response to any of your posts. Thus whatever you personally may or may not have said in this thread is entirely irrelevant, neither the world nor this thread revolves around you.

Moreover, my “the talk” is clearly distinct from something like “this thread”.

And last, what I do say is that the talk(!!) IGNORES the others. That’s precisely the inverse of what you’re claiming that I said.

TLDR; your post creates an idiotic strawman. As if you needed something you can argue against.

Ah, not a Stawman then.
