What does the P stand for in this recipe?

To all you German speaking baking experts,

Can anyone tell me what the P stands for in this recipe? (1/2 P. Vanillezucker)

2 kleine Eier

80 g Zucker

85 g weiche Butter

1⁄2 P. Vanillezucker

95 g Mehl

1 gestr. TL Backpulver

40 g Schokostreusel

Oh, and while you are at it, what is a gestr. TL ? I'm guessing a level teaspoon?

Thanks ever so much!

i think P is for packet, and TL for level teelöffel or teaspoon

Packet

Yes

P. = Päckchen (sachet)

Thank you!

I don't suppose you know what the abbreviation gestr. means?

dict.cc say its level teaspoon

All these little bake additives usually come in small sachets, about 4 or 5 in a plastic wrap. It should be a standard size/weight, so quantity of half a pack will be standard, also.

So P = pack, i.e. one of these sachets.

Thanks Knorrli!

You answered quickly!

I can now make my cake.

gestr. means "gestrichen" = level teaspoon

gestr. TL = level teaspoon.

EDIT: gawd, I'm slow.

First time with a written German recipe, eh?

It's the abbreviation for gestrichener Teelöffel which means level teaspoon in English.

No, we do a lot of cooking with German recipes, but I have done very little actual cake baking since we moved here.

Edit... Thanks guys!

gestr. = gestrichen = leveled (= Stroked with a knife?)

I would disagree with the last statement on this link here,

http://www.culinaricast.de/2010/10/0...n-in-rezepten/

because,

1 UK ts (teaspoon) = 5 ml (ml = milli liter or mL in German )

1 UK TS (Tablespoon) TS = 15 ml and

1 Australian / NZ Table spoon TS = 20 ml

German recipes don't use TS they use TL which are Tafel-Löfel. Equal to our desert spoons, or about equal to 2 tea spoons or 10 mL (<- I think I am correct there)

Yes, in the UK, a teaspoon is a tsp, and a tablespoon is a tbsp.

Halal Pork.

A Tafellöffel?? Duden says no .

Teelöffel.

The larger one is EL, Esslöffel.

Problem is the volume associated with it. Tratitionally it is TL = 5ml, EL = 15ml. Like Betty Bossi)/de/Angebote/Detail/24039?title=Betty-Bossi-Messloeffel&key=Kampagnen_Detail_4aa29598-938a-4bfe-8b1b-a6be6fca045e_32) .

but some recipes use smaller volumes.

So how much baking powder? A normal package is for 500 g flour and contains 16 g.

You have to use 1/5 package in your recipe. If you have a good enough scale simply use 3.2 g.

If you have measuring spoons, just meassuere first how many ml one package is and then go from there.
