What does this mean on a bill from Road Traffice Office?

We recently purchased a car (woo hoo!) and have now received a bill from strassenverkehrsamt which Google Translate tells me is the Road Traffic Office.

Of course, happy to pay but just want to understand what I am paying for as for some Google Translate worked but didn't for others.

So I would appreciate help with the missing translations and also what they are actually for:

1. Verkehrsabgabe (Transport Levy) ... what's that?

2. Fahrzeugausweis (vehicle id card) .... what's that? is this number plate?

3. Einlosungebuhr

4. Kontrollschilderpaar

Many thanks

HB

Fahrzeugausweis is your vehicle registration document. Possession of this is proof that you own the car, and that the car is legally on the road. Kontrollschilderpaar are your two license plates.

For the others, I'm not so sure, but I think Verkehrsabgabe is the yearly car tax. Einlosungebuhr - please check your spelling. Einlösung is a payment. ... edit: is it Einlösungsgebühr? That would be commission or processing fee.

Correct.

It's the regiistration fee which is usually due when a car is registered to a new owner.

on a similar line to this, i too have received this standard bill however my circumstances are slightly different and i'm not sure whether the garage where i have purchased our car from have made a cock up or if this is standard.

we wanted to buy a specific model of car which is not available anywhere in CH, Germany or Austria so we're having to wait 4 months for it to be assembled and come off the production line

As there's such a long turnaround and i don’t currently own a car, the Garage have given me a temporary vehicle which i obviously don’t own, so would i need to pay a tax for changing ownership when i don’t own the car?

1. Verkehrsabgabe - Car Tax

2. Fahrzeugausweis - vehicle registration document

3. Einlösungsgebühr - license plates

4. Kontrollschilderpaar - Registering car to a new owner.

I would agree I should pay 1 & 3 but not the other two

What’s also confusing is the bill comes with no documentation referring to what you’re actually paying for.

The best part is the garage want to change the car next week for something else so no doubt i’ll get another bill for 80CHF next month.

When you transfer a car to your ownership you will have to pay for all 4 items below. Once you have bought the plates they belong to you, and you can use them on your next car: (corrected items 3 and 4 )

1. Verkehrsabgabe - vehicle road tax

2. Fahrzeugausweis - vehicle registration document

3. Einlösungsgebühr - fee for registering car to a new owner.

4. Kontrollschilderpaar - license plates (a pair)

When you sell a car, give the plates to the Strassenvekehrsamt, they will inform & suspend your insurance. You will also need to take in the Fahrzeugausweis and it will be stamped as "annulled". Later you will receive refund payments for the road tax and the insurance.

Each canton has it's own peculiarities, but the above is usual.
