What food should I bring from UK to Zurich

Where exactly is here? Scones and Clotted Cream are certainly here at the Viadukt market (although scones are a piece of cake - no pun intended - to make yourself)

Delia Smiths scones recipes are great. I prefer cheese with a little paprika... still warm..... Well I guess I know what I'm doing tonight.

Yep! I already checked on here and it should fit Toilet seat compatability? ......

Nothing wrong with being attached to your toilet seat you know. Us Brits like our home comforts.

Don't worry, the toilet seat and food will be separated...... maybe...

I'll take a rain check on the brown-sugar mate.

OK, definitely seperated.

Also available from Britshop, I have a couple of packs of Tilda in my cupboard.

I usually go to London every 2-3 weeks and I recommend the following>

I do not know if you like Indian food, I live next to Brick lane so I do not have a choice but to love Indian food. Here in Zurich, Indian food prices can sometimes be pricy, so I bring lots of Indian food from UK like jars of different curries which I buy from from Tesco and M&S. A lot cheaper than the Patak's brand here which is sold at prices best described as daylight robbery.

Also I tend to bring lots of Naan bread. Cheap from Tesco. Freeze it up immediately you get home to preserve freshness.

Horlicks for those sleepless nights

Tea - I drink a lot of this Jamaican Ginger Tea, absolutely wicked. Cannot find that here, so Tesco, Asda are your best choice.

One thing which I do a lot of is I buy all my toiletries from UK due to a larger range and I find it is cheaper in UK due to better deals with the BOGOFs, and 3 for 2 thanks to price wars between Superdrug, Boots and Wilkinsons.

I buy my Monocle magazine in UK - it is £5 compared to CHF 20 in Switzerland Same goes for quite a few mags.

In general, all other prints, FT, Economist etc, I subscribe in UK and have the iPhone apps so I read them on the phone.

I have run out of suggestions now...Good luck

a member called avdhil was once asking a favor for someone to bring back

Asda Smart Price Noodles - Curry Flavor, im sure shel be very happy to have them, maybe pop her a pm and ask if she still needs them.

Nice of you to offer !

Here in CH.

I wasn't aware of Viadukt. But thanks for this info.

Can't find a member profile for avdhil......

In addition to all of the above, may I also suggest a good family cookbook which includes said scone recipe, plus pancakes, cheesecake, flapjacks, sponge cake recipes - I like Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's River Cottage Family Cookbook.

And another book on how to make simple suppers - I've been using Delia's how to Cook and Rachel Allen's Homecooking.

It does make life easier when you do start craving.

Good idea! Saint Delia will be coming with me, as will my complete baking book.....

Crisps by the case load!!! Scampi fries......!

I have discovered most things are in Switzerland but they are more expensive. For example baking power. To make a scones or soda bread you need a lot of little packets of swiss baking powder. I buy the big containers of baking powder, baking soda, cream of tarter and tartaric acid from the UK, much easier. (The later you buy from the pharmacy in Switzerland rather than the supermarket).

I bring lots of tea too. You can get some brands here but only the cheaper PG tips or Tetleys. Never be tempted to try the Swiss black tea.

Coop stocks raw sugar and I think also brown sugar, it just depends on the size and location of the store.

Cenovis is nicer than English marmite (I'm a Kiwi).

Christmas mincemeat I couldn't find last year so I brought it with me. We also smuggled in brandy butter, brandy cream, homemade christmas pudding (no suet here) and cranberry sauce....and crackers, if you come by road. Hmm, probably you can't buy these at this time of the year.

Crystallised ginger.

...I guess it depends how much you bake.

I take it you mean awdhil whose request for bringing food over is this Thread .

Make them... like Hot X buns!

What's wrong with you people?

Hang about! Practically the day after I wrote my post on this I went into Orell Fuessli in Zurich and found....Robinsons Orange squash!

Sugar free mind you, and at 6.90 CHF..but still..nearly finished it now

Couldn't find vanilla essence for making vanilla icing so got someone to bring that over for me, but it lasts ages.

If you have a Globus in Zurich they have it in the food hall.

Called 'Nomu' and costs a whopping Sfr.17.80 for 100 ml, but it's pure vanilla extract and lasts a very long time.

Wow! Thanks for the info, we do have a Globus here, but that is some price tag! My vanilla essence cost 60 pence for 28ml (ingredients: propylene glycol, water, flavouring, E150....)

Cans of tuna fish are always handy, you will save loads of money as you get special deals in Tescos (plus they taste better)
