what happens if you don't put 'vignette' on you garbage?

Yesterday my mother in law threw our garbage away, she didn't know about vignette, so didn't put anything.

Do you know what happens? Do they fine the condo, maybe?

thanks

Drive by shooting or death squad is the normal response for mother in laws ....

Anecdotally, they can look through the rubbish, get your address and fine you 100 chf

I don't know of anyone who has actually been fined !

It won't do you much good putting it in your garbage. Sticking it on the bag is the preferred method.

They might well rifle through the bag to discover the culprit and either send you a warning with a photocopy of an incriminating piece of evidence, or a fine (with a photocopy etc...).

Ok, sorry, false alarm. I went down and did the dirty job: found the garbage and put the vignette.

Sorry for being so stupid sometimes, I thought they had already taken it.

When I did it once, they just didn't take it.

Am I the only one who does not understand this

Can someone please explain to me the 'Vignette' on Garbage Bag..i only thought that we need the garbage 'Zuri' bag (2 chf per bag..).

Apologies if this is a very basic one

Normally they will give you a chance by leaving the offending bag beside the skip, with a note on it to sort it out.

If you leave it festering too long, you will get fined.

Jim

You'll notice that the OP is a Basler.

Some places have special bags (like you), others use normal bin bags and you buy special stickers to put on them. Just different ways to charge for the service.

garbage tip ...take a 110ltr bag , fill it with your general rubish ( none recycle stuff off course ) take your vacuum cleaner and place in top of bag , scrunch bag around nosel and suck air out of the bag , careful not to suck up your rubish , then press down into a smaller bag , 60 or 35 ltr , saves you a fortune over a year on costs :-)

Dont worry, I read it as vinegerette.

Only Zurich city uses the Zurisack. I recently moved out of Zone 10 and looked like a right plonker when I went into my new local Coop and asked for them.

Now, I have to buy stickers and stick them on normal trash bags. They do work out cheaper though!

Why do I get vacant stares from the Human Interface Cashier in Thalwil when I ask for Zurisack?

I've tried Thalwilsackli but it looks like they are going to short-circuit.

I have learned that abfallsackli (foif-e-droootsk) gets me what I need.

As explained, Zuri bags only cover Zurich.

Not even - if in Basel, she'd be using bebbisags (don't ask )

Out in Baselland, I believe they use stickers on normal rubbish bags. The bigger the bag the more stickers you have to use per bag.

Your mother in-law is now an outlaw.

When I first got here m-i-l asked me to go get some "abfallsack" for her and misunderstanding, I came back with a sack of apfels.

Is that Züriduutch for 35?

I hope so.

It's working for me, so I ain't going to change it.

I just found out. Where I live in Kanton Aargua the vignettes are perforated down the middle so you only use half for 17 liter bag, the whole vignette for 35 liters. I didn't know this as the vignette system is new, so I put half of a vignette on a 35 liter bag and put it out on the curb with others.

Later, when my wife left, she noticed one bag that had not been picked up, and asked me later if I had put a vignette on the bag, I told her yes.

Later, the remaining bag, which I assumed was someone else's, disappeared. The next day we received a personally addressed letter addressed to me with explicit instructions on the proper use of vignettes...a whole one must be used for 35 liter bags. So obviously the garbage collector radioed in a code violation, and a rapid-response garbage investigation team was dispatched to collect the offending bag and bring it back to HQ laboratories for detailed analysis as to who it belonged to.

At least they didn't charge me anything. Probably won't be so easy if it happens again...I am sure I have a black mark on my record now.

Be afraid. Be very afraid. Any such future violations could have you being marched to the border and any and all rights of abode striped from your name...

Just in case anybody is finding out about all this for the first time, do not, under any circumstances, put batteries in bins. You'll get a hefty fine if caught.

I'm glad you sorted it out. In Luzern, incorrect disposal of household rubbish is serious business.. I'm talking around 400 CHF in fines/'processing fees'. Ah yes, I believe the fee for the guy to dispose of it correctly was 90 CHF as well.. (We're talking about a small amount of rubbish approx 20cm2)

Don't ask me how I know .

Here's a nice story for you:

Having literally just stepped off the plane and being totally new to CH, the offending party (who shall remain nameless) was invited to send in a letter of objection etc. A few days later, he/she received a letter asking him/her to appear at the local magistrates with his/her lawyer! A nice guy at the magistrates took pity on him/her and advised him/her quietly that he/she had 0% chance of the fines being overturned and that he/she would have to pay all the court costs too.. So he/she just paid the fines. The End.

The moral of the story is: don't ya be messin' wit dem swiss rubbish rules, boy!!

Well, I guess I got Swiss citizenship just in the nick of time...
