So after you eat a meal do you say you are having
- dessert?
-pudding?
-afters?
anything else? (if you say desert, you are just a bad speller!)
I like saying something "sweet" but pudding sounds nice too (i know it's british to say that)
my swiss friend pointed out that isn't pudding just a type of dessert ? (eg. bread, christmas, sticky toffee etc)
but you wouldn't say pudding for a cake for example? that is true...i wouldn't call ice cream, pudding?
For me and my family, the word is definately PUDDING. And pudding covers everything from puddingy puddings to ice cream to cake to custard....basically everything sweet that you eat after dinner. Mmmm
"Pudding" in polite company or "Wasferafters??" if at home with the clan.

Nope, that is why when they'll carbon date me the results will not be normal (don't even start on other reasons swissotter ).
Jello Brand Pudding- it's yuck and yum at the same time; not only good for eating but you can wrestle in it too.

Afters or Pudding at home.
In a restaurant I would ask for the Dessert menu. I don't think that 'What's for afters?' would seem right somehow.
As a woman it's irrelevant. Only the men ask for desserts/afters/pudding in a restaurant because we are on a diet but it doesn't somehow stop us eating the lion's share of it when it comes.
dessert, postre or fruta (fruit sometimes) as we speak Spanglish at home.
SwissOtter, I was gonna write, "P is for pudding."
It's the other way round in my household! And we use the word 'dessert'. Usually it's ice-cream, cake, bain marie-d orange mousse, pannacotta, lemon curdy pie, fruit or tiramisu.
(And it's not that I'm not round.)
Definately dessert but never ever pudding or afters for us.
As a child, only on Sundays or over Christmas.
Now very seldom, unless fruit...
But I am famous for my "just a little taste"...
Do not say "what would you like for pudding" or "dessert", especially if you have children, say "which organic carbon-neutral locally produced fruit do you want?"

According to my kids it's "sweet stuff."

Shouldn't the question be "Wosfer....?" in which case the correct version would be "Pudden"
Of course, in proper company you'd simply politely refuse and retire to the drawing room for brandy and cigars, like wot we doz at 'ome.

For me pudding is the actual food, rice pudding, sticky toffee pudding, Yorkshire pudding, etc, this can be sweet or savory.
Dessert, means the sweet course to finish the meal, to clear the table.
As I am on a diet... right now its neither, but No thanks, can I have another leaf of lettuce please!

yes, it's one of the laws of women & desserts!
"let's share" "two forks pleez...."

I like black pudding.
Doesn't go well with custard though.
Cheers,
Nick
Oh I don't know... I will say a lot of things in return for cake!
