What Is the Best Way to Get Around London After Arriving at Heathrow?

I’m planning a London trip and was wondering what other travellers prefer after arriving at Heathrow. Is public transport usually the easiest option, or do you prefer a pre-booked transfer or private car, especially when travelling with luggage?

For those who have travelled to London before, what has worked best for you in terms of convenience, reliability and getting to your hotel without unnecessary delays?

I’d also be interested to hear whether anyone has experience using a chauffeur service for airport transfers in London.

Depends where you want to go.

Public transport, Heathrow Express, otherwise Elisabeth Line. Private car will get stuck in traffic and cost a lot, but you’ll avoid having to walk up Victorian era stairs while navigating a stampede of people who’ll all look stressed/angry/crazy, and will be moving towards every direction possible.

Elisabeth line, avoid the Heathrow express (too expensive and for most people doesn’t go anywhere useful).
But yes, public transport every time.

Getting around London is easiest on The Tube ( London Underground ) so long as you have a clear idea of which Tube stations are convenient for the places you want to visit. Cars & busses get stuck in traffic that might cramp your time schedule, although you should be aware that during the rush hour the tube trains do get busy and crowded.

Plus you can’t park when you get there.

Elizabeth line has nice trains and stations as it’s new, but Heathrow Express is, well, express! Not too expensive either, £29, took it twice last week and always take it regardless of whether my job is paying.

I’m sorry but £29 for a 16 mile trip is called extortionate in my book

Even in Switzerland who has some of the more expensive train fares such a trip would not cost more than 12 francs, without half-fare even…

Children under fifteen travel free so it’s worth doing the sums if you have a big family.

Tube!
