Hmmmm, I have to say that I work for a big company and I do have freedom as to when I start working and when I finish working. Also on working from home etc. I love my company
Yes, okay. But I more meant that if I want to do design work instead of animation work. I am allowed to do that. In bigger companies when I asked if that would be possible during the job interview it was all negative. That's what I meant with freedom. Yes, regarding start working and leaving is all free as long you make the 42 hours per week
Yes, I would prefer the Dutch 36 hours too. We can't have everything. Most important is the fun factor at work! Oh well, I nearly get the same salary as my sister (in Holland) who has worked for more then seven years. I am just a graduate.
Yep I miss my working hours but not the commuting time (lived in Katwijk had to work in Leiderdorp) and then neither do I miss the salary and the lack of bonus
Many of the people on this forum are specialists and have the corresponding salary. I think this and their comments tend to distort the picture somehow. In the world outside Wollerau the average salary is around 5 to 6K per month. For people with university degrees, add maybe 2 or 3K to that. A university graduate can expect to make 6K or 7K if lucky. 9 to 10K is a very good salary and normally implies several years of experience and some special skills or management responsibilities. University professors in senior positions get a bit over 16K, as does the major of Zürich and some of her top civil servants. The CEOs of many mid sized companies don't make much more than that either. Maybe around the 20K mark. Sure, there are a handful of CEOs making millions, but these are mostly those of the very big (usually international) corporations. Some entrepeneurs are also making very big salaries, but often in high risk activities so there's no saying they can go on making that sort of money.
Well since I am only non-management . I get to swipe my badge to come in and out. So if I stay in the office longer then I get those hours back as holidays or compensation hours.
Yeah, here they compensate time for time. That's nice and of course you can get unpaid off... If you have that freelance job that's one big cash cow that's more then your monthly salary.
Anyway, back to the subject of Swiss prices. I wouldn't mind paying the extra IF I was getting better quality but I'm not.
Having just moved here to the Zurich area (we have also lived in Geneva) I pray for Waitrose, Tesco or Sainsbury's to open up here to show The Swiss what they are missing. We have amazing choices on the shelves, superb butchers within the supermarkets. Totally spoiled with our choices of meat cuts etc. etc. and foods from all around the world.
I find here that if I want to buy anything that is not Swiss, ie. Parma ham, or indeed anything imported, the prices are ludicrous.
The vegetables,fruit and salads are not too fresh and 'go off' very soon after purchase.
When we were based in Geneva it was a pleasure to hop over the border to France, they too had great supermarkets along with their wonderful village markets full of lovely fruit, veg,sausages and spices etc.

And billions they will get back with speed cameras positioned every bloody 500 meters just to you up the a*se... sometimes I have to pay more attention to the bloody odometer than the road..
